Overview

This new version of ESSL provides optimum performance for floating-point engineering and scientific applications running on an IBM Cluster 1600, IBM pSeries(TM) or RS/6000® servers, or SP(TM) systems.

The ESSL libraries have been tuned for optimum performance on the POWER4(TM) and POWER4+(TM) processors. ESSL now supports the AIX® 5L V5.2 32-bit and 64-bit kernels.

o The Dense Linear Algebraic Equation Subroutines now include these new LAPACK subroutines:
- SGESV, DGESV, CGESV, and ZGESV: General Matrix Factorization and Multiple Right-Hand Side Solve
- SPPSV and DPPSV: Positive Definite Real Symmetric Matrix Factorization and Multiple Right-Hand Side Solve
- SPOSV, DPOSV, CPOSV, and ZPOSV: Positive Definite Real Symmetric or Complex Hermitian Matrix Factorization and Multiple Right-Hand Side Solve
- SPPTRF and DPPTRF: Positive Definite Real Symmetric Matrix Factorization
- SPPTRS and DPPTRS: Positive Definite Real Symmetric Matrix Multiple Right-Hand Side Solve
- CGETRI and ZGETRI: General Matrix Inverse
- CPOTRI and ZPOTRI: Positive Definite Complex Hermitian Matrix Inverse
- CTRTRI, ZTRTRI, CTPTRI, and ZTPTRI: Triangular Matrix Inverse.
o SMP support has been added to the SCFT and DCFT subroutines when computing a single large transform.
o Manpages of the subroutine descriptions are now available.

Key Prerequisites

o IBM Cluster 1600, pSeries or RS/6000 servers, or SP systems
o AIX 5L V5.2 with 5200-01
o XL FORTRAN Run-Time Environment Version 8, or later

Planned Availability Date

July 25, 2003

Description

ESSL V4.1 contains identical calling sequences as prior versions of ESSL. The quick return condition for subroutine DBSSV has been changed. For all other subroutines, existing application programs will work without changes or recompilation.

All ESSL libraries provide high levels of performance for numerically intensive computing jobs on the respective processors. All versions provide mathematically equivalent results.

Refer to the Engineering and Scientific Subroutine Library for AIX 5L Guide and Reference for details. Hardcopy documentation is no longer being shipped with the product. It can be viewed or printed as detailed in the Publications section.

The ESSL software license agreement is now shipped, viewed, and accepted electronically.

Accessibility by People with Disabilities

o Operation by keyboard alone

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

ESSL V4.1 is capable, as of July 25, 2003, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

Product Positioning

ESSL should be used where optimum performance is desired through simple subroutine calls from serial and SMP floating-point engineering and scientific applications running on Cluster 1600, pSeries or RS/6000 servers, or SP systems.
