Software transforms design intent into CAD model.

Press Release Summary:

Cadmus Fashion reverse engineering software produces trimmed NURBS models from polygon models or 3D point-cloud data from physical part. Suited for surfacing and industrial design, it enables recreation of original surface aesthetics. Free-form shapes are decomposed into independent primary surfaces and dependent feature surfaces. Software generates color maps for comparison and analysis, and supports all import and export formats.

Raindrop Geomagic Releases Cadmus Fashion, New Software for Surfacing and Industrial Design

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., November 24, 2003 -- Raindrop Geomagic has released Cadmus Fashion, reverse engineering software that transforms design intent into a CAD model. The new software is based on technology from Cadmus Consulting LLC, the computer-aided geometric design company in Hungary that was acquired by Raindrop Geomagic in late October.

Cadmus Fashion produces high-quality, trimmed NURBS models from polygon models or 3D point-cloud data from a physical part. It enables industrial designers to recreate the original surface aesthetics that are often lost when generating CAD models. Testing has shown that Cadmus Fashion can provide ten-fold productivity increases over traditional CAD software when processing complex free-form surfaces.

"Cadmus Fashion extends our reach beyond accurate replication of a physical product to generation of stylish surfaces commonly used in automotive body design and consumer products," says Dr. Tamas Varady, Raindrop Geomagic's chief technology officer. "Functional decomposition within Cadmus Fashion revolutionizes reverse engineering for surfacing and industrial design."

Free-form shapes from scanned objects are decomposed by Cadmus Fashion into a hierarchy of independent primary surfaces and dependent feature surfaces. Primary surfaces approximate the original surface data and are controlled exclusively by a selected distance tolerance, without the need to specify the number of control points and smoothness weights. The smoothest possible surface is generated automatically within the given tolerance. Primary surface fitting features include adaptive control point density, natural surface extensions, and hole and defect covering.

Feature surfaces from Cadmus Fashion guarantee smooth connections to adjacent surfaces. Feature surface capabilities include constrained fitting for continuity, constant and variable radius rolling-ball blends, swept free-form surfaces, N-sided patches, and automatic trimline relocation.

Cadmus Fashion automatically generates color maps that enable users to compare and analyze curvature, deviation, contours, isophotes and environment. The software supports all major import and export formats for points, polygons and surfaces.

Cadmus Fashion is available immediately from Raindrop Geomagic and its worldwide distributors.
