Invensys Releases ArchestrA Device Communications Toolkit

New Toolkit Facilitates Invensys and Third-Party DAServers to be Built on ArchestrA Technology

LAKE FOREST, Calif., Aug. 6, 2003 -- Invensys plc today announced the release of a groundbreaking new communications product called the ArchestrA(TM) DAS Toolkit. The ArchestrA DAS Toolkit is designed to make building Data Access Servers (DAS or DAServers) easier through the use of Invensys' open ArchestrA software architecture.

Using this toolkit, Wonderware, other Invensys business units and third parties can build DAServers, which are next-generation plant communications interfaces built on ArchestrA technology. DAServers offer enhanced communication diagnostics and performance.

During the past six months, multiple Wonderware(R) DAServer products have been developed with this toolkit and are installed in several customer applications. Wonderware DAServers are designed to provide simultaneous connectivity between plant-floor devices and modern DDE, Wonderware SuiteLink(TM) and OPC(R) protocol-based client applications running under Microsoft Windows(R) 2000 and XP operating systems. The ArchestrA DAServer Toolkit will support other protocols as technology evolves and becomes available.

"DAServers are the perfect complement to Wonderware's next-generation FactorySuite A2(TM) (A-squared) product line, which provides native OPC client functionality," said Tim Black, device integration manager at Wonderware. "With Invensys' ArchestrA DAS Toolkit, Wonderware now offers even more powerful communication solutions for industrial automation applications."

The modular architecture allows for the addition of new plug-ins with recompilation. The graphical user interface also is detached from the main protocol engine, enabling more detailed diagnostics, remote hot configuration and enhanced configuration files.

Version 1.0 of the ArchestrA DAS Toolkit features:
-- Enhanced diagnostic mapping capabilities
-- Modular architecture
-- Detached graphical user interface/remote configuration
-- Transaction support, including unsolicited messages
-- Multiple protocol capability
-- The generation of both a standard OPC server and advanced ArchestrA technology integration with a single development effort

The toolkit uses wizards to manage a majority of the programming involved in building servers. It also enables custom modifications to address a customer's specific application requirements.
