Overview
The NAS Gateway 500 System Software is an integrated software
package based on the IBM eserver pSeries® Server AIX® 5L 5.2B Operating System Environment, IBM File Server specific software, and support for IBM's Tivoli® backup software. NAS Gateway 500 System Software provides the necessary software support for the IBM TotalStorage® Enterprise NAS Gateway 500, including the operating system, NAS functionality, systems management, security, optional features, and other software functions, designed to enable it to perform as an efficient pipe between the Ethernet LAN and Fibre Channel storage systems.
IBM TotalStorage NAS Gateway 500 System Software, 5729-NS1, is
preloaded on the NAS Gateway 500 and provides software support for this versatile NAS storage product.
The NAS Gateway 500 is a specialized storage server designed to enable Ethernet LAN attached end-user clients, workstations, and
servers to access Fibre Channel storage systems or the storage area network (SAN). Refer to Hardware Announcement 104-024, dated
January 27, 2004, for additional details on the NAS Gateway 500.
The NAS Gateway 500, and supporting NAS Gateway 500 System
Software, are designed to be integrated into the network and add
value by helping lower administrative costs and provide a
scalable storage consolidation solution with the performance,
reliability, and availability characteristics that you expect and
demand.
Key prerequisites
IBM TotalStorage NAS Gateway 500 System Software is preloaded on the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise NAS Gateway 500 and must be ordered concurrently with this system.

o February 6, 2004: All except Remote Mirroring feature
o August 27, 2004: Remote Mirroring feature

NAS Gateway 500 System Software consists of the base software and
the following, separately priced, optional features:
o Common Internet File Services (CIFS) File Serving
- Provides Microsoft(TM) Windows(TM) file sharing protocols
o Clustering
- Provides support for two NAS Gateway 500s connected together to form a dual-node cluster
o Remote Mirroring
- Designed to enable the mirroring of logical volumes from a source NAS Gateway 500 to a remote target NAS Gateway 500
