Original Press Release:

ARTiSAN Gears up for the Standardization of SysML with the Launch of ARTiSAN Studio Version 6.1

Embedded World 2006, NURNBERG, Germany, Feb. 15 -- ARTiSAN Software Tools, a global leader for UML 2 and SysML-based real-time systems and software modeling tools, is continuing its investment in the impending standardization of SysML with the launch of ARTiSAN Studio 6.1. ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 incorporates an extensive range of new features and functionality including an out-of-the-box, easy-to-use solution for SysML requirements modeling, a practical solution for template-based Model Driven Architecture transformation of state machines, XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) 2.1 support, a range of usability enhancements as well as repository-based configuration management for model-driven, team-based software development.

With the standardization of SysML nearing finalization, and as part of ARTiSAN's ongoing support for SysML, ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 provides an easy-to-use, out-of-the-box solution for SysML requirements modeling in a UML/SysML model that supports a range of safety-related process standards such as DO178B for avionics software, IEC/DIN/EN 61508 for automotive and other safety-critical applications, CENELEC DIN/EN 50126, 50128, 50129 for railway transportation and DO254 for hardware. The new SysML Requirements Profile (RP) brings textual requirements to the UML world by making use of ARTiSAN Studio's advanced Ergonomic Profiling capabilities to provide new menus, diagrams and a browser for exploring systems requirements and traceability relationships. It supports a wide external tool chain allowing textual requirements to be displayed and traced inside the UML/SysML model and synchronization with requirements held in external tools such as DOORS, RequisitePro, Word, Excel and Access. With its multi-user, client-server repository, ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 will maintain its role as the leading tool for standards-based mission-critical systems and software engineering.

ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 also supports the OMG's concept of Model Driven Architecture (MDA) with a practical and usable solution that provides a fast, single-step process for transforming state machines into code. ARTiSAN's Template Development Kit (TDK) provides ground breaking technology for configuring the model-to-code transformations to support in-house standards, key hardware/software constraints, target-ready code and reusable design patterns. When the templates are changed, the TDK will automatically re-build the DLL that performs the model-to-code transformation. The ability to re-use patterns and code transformations across different projects not only shortens time-to-completion and but also significantly reduces repetition and re-work costs.

As further support for model simulation and animation, ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 also sees the roll-out of the integration of iSYSTEM's emulation and debug technology to provide a contiguous solution for the on-target simulation of embedded applications modeled in UML. With the integration of iSYSTEM's winIDEA and ARTISAN Studio, the behavior of a UML State Diagram can be analyzed in parallel on a real target system. This ensures that the real world relationship between hardware and software can now be established and software errors eliminated at an earlier point in the software development process.

ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 introduces a new repository-based configuration management capability in support of model-driven, team-based software development. Aligned with the built-in change tracking facility, the internal versioning provides a significantly enhanced ability to efficiently baseline large models to support key review and audit processes. Also included is the ability to create private views of the repository. This new private sandbox technology provides a model-friendly environment for isolating individual software developers working on implementation models without the complexity of an external configuration management tool. Both change tracking and private sandboxes understand the complexity of the model and support a fine granularity of element locking to reduce developer conflict and automatically maintain consistent models.

As part of ARTiSAN's UML 2 compliance strategy, ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 also delivers leading support for XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) 2.1 functionality. XMI enables the exchange of data between UML modeling tools and metadata repositories and is especially important for supporting third party add-ins built in Eclipse. XMI is important for ARTiSAN's role as the leading hub for profile-based extensibility. Using Ergonomic Profiling, domain-specific languages for Architectural Frameworks such as DoDAF, MoDAF and automotive domains such as AUTOSAR can be built upon a UML compliant metamodel enabling the exploitation and support of existing tools and the sharing of data with repositories such as MoDAF's M3.

ARTiSAN takes pride in providing the fastest path to the right product by providing easy-to-use and easy-to-adopt solutions. As part of its continual process of improvement, ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 incorporates a range of user- requested usability improvements to increase developer productivity. These include a powerful web-style navigation toolbar for navigating through the user interface and additional support for fine tuning diagrams to improve presentation and display. Also included are infrastructure enhancements to support tool roll-out on large-scale, mission-critical systems development including further support for Active Directory, Chinese Windows and emulation under Linux. Support for ARTiSAN Studio's Rational Rose migration tool has also been improved, reinforcing its position as the tool of choice for Rose migration.

Commenting on the launch of ARTiSAN Studio 6.1, Jeremy Goulding, President and CEO of ARTiSAN Software Tools said: "With the standardization process for SysML nearing completion, the launch of ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 not only reflects our leadership role in its development but also represents a major step forward in model-based, real-time systems and software development tools. The SysML-compliant functionality that we are delivering will all go a long way to further satisfying the demanding requirements of systems engineers."

ARTiSAN Studio 6.1 will be available in Q2 2006.
