Original Press Release:

Pepperweed Advanced Access 3.2 for Multi-OpenView Environments Offers Flexible Management Configuration, Improved System Health Capabilities and Support

INDIANAPOLIS, July 25 / - Pepperweed's newest release of its Advanced Access Web portal for HP OpenView Operations for Unix provides significant enhancements for administrators, including flexible management configuration, improved system health capabilities and support for multi- OpenView server environments.

Designed to be easy to deploy, learn, and use, Pepperweed Advanced Access Version 3.2 simplifies HP OpenView Operations for UNIX administration by enabling decentralized organizations to place responsibility for routine configuration and provisioning tasks directly in the hands of those requesting the service. Advanced Access distributes workloads more efficiently, ensuring rapid execution of service requests.

"Advanced Access makes it possible to implement OpenView successfully and easily across global IT infrastructure," said Pepperweed CEO Tom Reinsel. "Version 3.2 also provides restricted powers to application teams to configure their own monitoring policies; a distributed framework allows rapid OpenView implementation with far fewer resources than formerly required."

"Most customers find that Advanced Access provides a full return on investment in six months or less," said Gene Barringer, senior consultant for Pepperweed. "While distributing workload and reducing time-to-proficiency of new hires, it frees senior IT staff for critical issues and innovation instead of routine configuration and maintenance."

Pepperweed Advanced Access now enables administrators to configure HP OpenView Operations for UNIX (OVO) Flexible Management from their Web browser. OVO Flexible Management refers to the OpenView concept of scheduling maintenance windows for managed nodes, forwarding or escalating events from one OpenView server to another and configuring a "follow-the-sun" event strategy. In addition, line-of-business owners can now use Advanced Access to schedule their own outages without prior knowledge of the OpenView Flexible Management concepts.

According to a senior system administrator of a leading payroll services company, "We use OpenView Operations to ensure our computing infrastructure keeps pace with our organization's double digit growth. Pepperweed's Advanced Access software enables us to distribute the operational responsibilities required to maintain our IT environment in a highly controlled manner. The solution also allows us to note and quickly respond to issues within parameters established in service level agreements negotiated with business units and customers."

Pepperweed improved the Advanced Access 3.2 System Health feature by enabling the organization of system-health profiles into a folder hierarchy. Additionally, profiles can be assigned to OpenView Operations node groups as well as managed nodes. A new parameter has been added to System Health that allows users to ignore NFS-mounted file systems. When deployed with the HP OpenView Embedded Performance Component, System Health can save performance data for up to a year, and even extract that data for later processing.

Pepperweed Advanced Access 3.2 also simplifies OpenView management when used in an environment with multiple HP OpenView Operations management servers. Using the Advanced Access Web portal, users can redirect a current Web page to the same page on another HP OVO server. Additionally, it enables users to point Config Explorer to a remote OVO server, view remote templates and migrate them to a current OVO server. Advanced Access includes command line utilities for synchronizing OVO management servers and initiating a failover of agents from one management server to another.
