Software supports Message Passing Interface.

Press Release Summary:

Parallel Environment v4.2 runs on p5 servers and pSeries® High Performance Switch, and can coexist in clusters managed by Cluster Management Systems. Software offers striping of messages over multiple adapters attached to pSeries HPS, and MPI/LAPI support for up to 128 tasks per node using shared memory. It provides remote direct memory access for bulk data copy/transfer of large contiguous messages on HPS only.

Overview
IBM Parallel Environment for AIX® 5L, V4.2 (Parallel Environment V4.2) contains functional enhancements for high-performance computing customers whose parallel applications use the industry-standard Message Passing Interface (MPI).

MPI is a message passing library specification that was developed by a group of industry, academic, and government experts. It serves as a common standard for developing parallel message passing applications that run a variety of computer systems.

IBM's implementation of MPI exploits an optimized low-level application programming interface (LAPI) designed to maximize parallel application performance on clusters made up of IBM POWER3(TM), POWER4(TM), and POWER5(TM) servers running AIX 5L V5.2 and V5.3.

Parallel Environment V4.2 runs on the IBM p5 servers and IBM pSeries® High Performance Switch (HPS) (on AIX 5L V5.2 only) and can coexist in clusters managed by Cluster Systems Management (CSM). This release also includes the following enhancements:

Remote direct memory access (RDMA) for bulk data copy/transfer of large contiguous messages on the HPS only

Striping of messages over multiple adapters attached to the pSeries HPS

MPI/LAPI support for up to 128 tasks per node using shared memory

Support for LoadLeveler® job launch enhancements with increased flexibility and processing options

Support for up to 8,192 tasks with improved memory utilization for large jobs

MPI collectives algorithm and optimization improvements

MPI shared memory collectives that exploit AIX 5L V5.3 cross-memory attach enhancements

MPI/LAPI point-to-point messages in shared memory that use AIX 5L V5.3 cross-memory attachment enhancements

MPI/LAPI performance statistics

This is the last release of IBM Parallel Environment for AIX 5L that will support Parallel Systems Support Programs (PSSP), the SP(TM) Switch2, and POWER3 servers.

Parallel Environment V4.2 does not support the SP Switch.

Key prerequisites
AIX 5L V5.2 or V5.3 operating system
For customers who use SP systems, PSSP V3.5 is required
