Data I/O® Corporation Announces Fastest Programming Support for M-Systems' DiskOnChip Flash Solutions

FlashCORE programming architecture makes high volume, low-cost production of Flash-memory based products a reality

Redmond, WA, February 19, 2003 - Today, Data I/O® Corporation (NASDAQ: DAIO) released high-speed Flash programming support for M-Systems' (Nasdaq: FLSH) DiskOnChip® products.

M-Systems DiskOnChip is a family of high-performance, single-chip Flash disks available in a wide range of storage capacities. DiskOnChip technology is ideal for applications requiring growing amounts of non-volatile memory to store operating systems, data, and multimedia content.

Designers and manufacturers of mobile phones, PDAs, set top boxes, smart appliances, and telecom and networking infrastructure require optimal performance and high throughput programming solutions for prototyping and manufacturing. Manufacturers of these mobile devices and other products with embedded DiskOnChip devices will now be able to use Data I/O FlashPAK desktop programmer, RoadRunner in-line flash programming systems, or PS300 FlashCORE(TM) Automated Programming Systems to design and manufacture these products.

"Data I/O FlashCORE is the ideal programming architecture for our DiskOnChip," said Raz Dan, M-Systems' Vice President of Customer Support. "The speed and stability of DiskOnChip, combined with rapid, reliable programming on Data I/O FlashCORE; systems will deliver a true advantage to manufacturers in the race to market with new Flash-based products."

Data I/O FlashCORE Architecture Ideal for M-Systems' device technology
In a unique partnership, Data I/O and M-Systems engineers ported M-Systems' True Flash File System® (TrueFFS®), directly to the Data I/O FlashCORE programming architecture. The FlashCORE architecture is the foundation of revolutionary high-speed Flash programming systems that deliver the lowest cost per programmed device. By integrating TrueFFS into the FlashCORE architecture, customers will be able to program DiskOnChip at speeds no other programming method can match. DiskOnChip devices are programmed on the FlashPAK and ProLINE-RoadRunner at a rate of 0.3 sec/Mbit, several times faster than existing programming solutions.

FlashPAK(TM) Programming System: Optimized for High-Density Flash Device Programming
Data I/O FlashPAK is a high-speed gang desktop Flash Programming System for prototype and production programming environments. The FlashPAK Programming System is designed to program the leading high-density Flash memory devices at near theoretical minimum programming times, and at the lowest cost per programmed part. FlashPAK uses the fastest Flash programming architecture available to deliver unmatched yield and the highest possible throughput.

ProLINE-RoadRunner(TM): The world's fastest and most cost effective in-line Flash programming system
The ProLINE-RoadRunner an automated in-line programming feeder, is targeted for high-volume users of high-density Flash memory devices including cellular phone, automotive, and PDA manufacturers. The RoadRunner removes Flash memory devices from tape, programs four devices in parallel, then delivers the programmed parts to the pick-up point of the placement machine.

PS300(TM) FlashCORE(TM) Automated Programming System for high volume programming
The PS300FC automated programming system accommodates up to twelve programmers (up to 48 programming sites), surpassing any throughput currently available. Combining FlashCORE programmers with a high-speed handler produces a machine designed specifically for Flash memory applications, and has a unique architecture that delivers the lowest programming cost for high-density Flash devices. This is accomplished by a combination of exceptional programming speed, reliable handler platform, system scalability, and software-based process control.
