StuffIt Offers Faster Compression with Improved Data Access Tools and Automatic Backup

WATSONVILLE, CA, April 14, 2004 - Aladdin Systems, Inc., an Aladdin Systems Holdings, Inc. company (OTC BB: ALHI), today announced the release of the latest version of StuffIt Deluxe(tm) 8.5 for Windows. This new version improves compression speed, adds valuable automatic backup and data access features, updates and enhances the user interface, offers direct toolbar integration with Microsoft Office 2003, adds support for CAB and yEnc compressed files, in addition to quickly and safely handling all popular and obscure compression and archival formats. Users can now completely automate their backups with StuffIt Deluxe's new automatic scheduler.

StuffIt safely opens any attachment downloaded from the Internet with an easy to use drag-and-drop interface that quickly compresses and uncompresses files allowing users see the contents of any archive. StuffIt Deluxe protects confidential files with strong encryption technology and shrinks files to a manageable size so they fit as e-mail attachments and can be sent more quickly. New Features and Benefits:
o INSTANTLY ACCESS ANY COMPRESSED, ARCHIVED, OR BACKED UP FILE- The new Disk Index utility in StuffIt Deluxe 8.5 allows users to create a searchable index of any CD or DVD. They can list all the files stored on the disc and the contents of any archives on a disc, enabling them to quickly browse and search CDs and DVDs even when the discs are not inserted in the computer. The Disk Index works in tandem with StuffIt's powerful ArchiveSearch(tm) feature, which browses and searches archives still stored on the computer hard drive.

o AUTOMATE ANY BACKUP PROCESS AND RUN IT LIKE CLOCKWORK- The Scheduler utility in StuffIt Deluxe 8.5 lets users take tasks created with a StuffIt Wizard and schedule them so they run automatically on a regular basis. Users can build powerful rules to add files to a backup archive based on whether the files match a set of predefined criteria. For example, StuffIt can automatically back up all files in the "My Documents" folder that have changed since the last time a backup was run.

o MORE WAYS TO RESOLVE FILENAME CONFLICTS AND COLLISIONS- StuffIt Deluxe 8.5 provides an expanded range of options for resolving name collisions that occur when adding files to an archive -- or expanding files to the file system -- and another file of the same name already exists there. By default, StuffIt prompts the user to resolve name conflicts on a case by case basis. Alternatively, StuffIt can replace the existing file with the one moved by StuffIt, or automatically rename the file being moved so its name becomes unique. StuffIt can also compare the modification dates of the file being moved and the existing file and keep the newer of the two, or skip the conflicting file so it will not be expanded or added to the archive.

o MERGE FOLDER CONTENTS MORE EASILY- StuffIt Deluxe 8.5 now provides the option of merging the contents of two folders. If a name conflict occurs for individual files within the folders being merged, they can be handled according to the options described above.

o SIMPLY RIGHT-CLICK TO ARCHIVE OR COMPRESS FROM WITHIN WINDOWS- A new StuffIt Archive context menu provides an expanded range of options when opening an archive, compressed file, or encoded file using the Windows Explorer context menu. The context menu lets users create archives in a Windows Explorer folder without first having to launch the StuffIt application. Users just have to right-click within a folder in Windows Explorer, My Computer, or My Documents to launch the StuffIt context menu.

o FASTER COMPRESSION AND DECOMPRESSION- Many significant improvements have been made to the StuffIt X file format to offer greater speed.

o NOW COMPRESS WITHOUT LEAVING OFFICE 2003- StuffIt Deluxe 8.5 now fully supports the Word, Excel, and Outlook components of Office 2003, so files can be compressed directly from within Microsoft Office 2003. StuffIt adds several new tools to the toolbar at the top of these Office applications, enabling users to save or send files as compressed files, or to open archived files, without leaving the Word, Excel, or Outlook screen.

o IMPROVED USER INTERFACE- A new StuffIt Start Page provides a location from which users can access any of the components of the StuffIt Deluxe suite and find help and other resources.

o CONVENIENTLY SEGMENT OVERLY LARGE ARCHIVES- StuffIt X file format supports the creation of segments from archives larger than 4 gigabytes in size. Users can also browse and extract files from segmented StuffIt X archives.

Aladdin Systems is upgrading the Standard Edition of StuffIt with many of the same enhancements as the Deluxe version. The Standard Edition provides CAB and yenc file support, name conflict and merging features, the StuffIt Archive Menu, faster StuffIt compression, the improved user interface with the Start Page, and enhanced StuffIt X segmenting. However, the Standard Edition lacks the Disk Index, Scheduler, and Microsoft Office 2003 plug-in included in the Deluxe version.
