Original Press Release:
Infor Extends Warehouse Management Capability for Discrete Manufacturing
ATLANTA, October 11, 2005 - Infor, the largest global enterprise software provider exclusively focused on developing solutions for the manufacturing and distribution industries, today announced it is making its warehouse management technology available for an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system used by discrete manufacturers.
The advanced system for managing distribution centers is already an indispensable part of Infor Manufacturing Essentials, and now Infor professional-service experts can incorporate it into Infor's Microsoft .NET-based ERP system for manufacturers. With this new option, Infor continues to leverage highly valued applications horizontally across a number of its product lines.
The Infor Distribution Center Management System (DCMS) adds warehouse management functionality to the Infor SyteLine ERP system. It promotes lean manufacturing by enabling manufacturers to keep less inventory in the plant. Additionally, DCMS supports manufacturers who are storing and shipping products directly to customers instead of sending finished goods to a separate warehouse location. The system helps manufacturers more efficiently store materials for customers and vendor-owned inventory and improves third-party logistics operations.
The Infor DCMS technology is particularly easy to use within manufacturing plants, with its graphical display, simple navigation system, and ability to provide subsets of data easily.
This Infor technology, which can be used for single or multiple warehouses, allows manufacturers and distributors to visualize the location of specific items within the facility. It also enables them to determine the size and weight of incoming shipments to establish the best way to transport and position them in the warehouse. The system automates customer billing using Rate Maintenance and Billing functionality. Companies can set up any rate structure they prefer based on activity and storage within the facility.
Manufacturers and distributors increase their ability to manage inventory flows, labor and resources through the advanced warehouse functions of Infor DCMS. These include:
Radio-frequency (RF) barcode scanning for data entry
Both serial and batch management
Control of lots, serial numbers and expiration dates
Tools to measure productivity and cost
Capabilities for advanced shipping notices, electronic data interchange, customer compliance labeling and other valuable services
Infor Syteline is a comprehensive ERP system built on the Microsoft .NET platform for improved flexibility, application integration and interoperability compared with mixed platforms. Infor Syteline 7, the latest release, supports all areas of a manufacturer's operations, including design, selling, planning, sourcing, production, shipping, service and finance.
Infor currently is adapting an industry-specific version of DCMS to apply to process manufacturing, as it continues to enlarge its family of technology "Essentials" for each type of industry. In addition to DCMS, Infor applications that have been introduced for multiple products include quality-management and supply-chain management solutions, each of which is configured for the particular needs of specific industries.
Infor assembles best-in-class applications, innovates them into integrated systems for select industries, and applies them to multiple products to support each industry vertical.
