IBM Infoprint ProcessDirector Advances Transaction Output Operations

Overview

Customers whose cash flow and customer relations depend upon transaction output must be able to reduce operational costs, enhance document value, improve throughput, and optimize asset utilization to compete effectively in today's highly competitive On Demand Business environment.

At the same time, the increasing complexity of high-volume output environments makes it difficult to achieve the end-to-end automation of essential tasks, such as error recovery, tracking and reporting, accounting, and many others that are necessary to reduce costs.

IBM delivers Infoprint® ProcessDirector, an extensible, configurable print and mail process management system, based on a Linux(TM) platform, that lets customers start small and grow over time as the customer's automated workflow operations evolve. At the core of Infoprint ProcessDirector is basic print management software with advanced capabilities that enable flexible, end-to-end control of the customer's print and mail production processes.

Infoprint ProcessDirector is a modular framework that can help re-engineer and streamline the customer's transaction output processes. This gives the customer the ability to react rapidly to the challenges of interoperability of systems and devices in heterogeneous environments, with faster deployment and reduced risk.

Planned availability information

Infoprint ProcessDirector is available immediately from IBM Printing Systems Professional Services as a services offering. It will be available in second quarter 2006 as a Programming Request for Price Quotation (PRPQ). Ordering and pricing information for the PRPQ will be available in April, 2006.

Description

Infoprint Process Director offers the following features:

IBM printer driver to run IBM and third-party Intelligent Printer Data Stream(TM) (IPDS(TM))-compliant printers
A program that lets customers build AFP(TM) print files from line data, and index the data stream to take advantage of reprint and other functionality
Ability to accept AFP print files downloaded from z/OS® using the MVS(TM) Download or AFP Download Plus features of IBM Print Services Facility(TM) for z/OS V4.1 (5655-M32)
Ability to submit AFP print jobs using a hot folder defined to the Linux file system
A browser-based GUI and dashboard that lets the customer oversee the end-to-end production process
Ability to select individual print jobs or pages using the browser-based viewer and position them precisely for reprint
Database-driven process control built on DB2® Universal Database (UDB) software that scales easily as customer output volumes increase

All of these features are based on an extensible, modular framework that allows customers to add new components as their output needs evolve. An interface to the framework lets the customer define third-party components, such as page formatting or postal code sorting software, or custom solution components developed in-house or in partnership with IBM Professional Services.
