Sharpcast Extends Award-Winning Application Synchronization Service to All File Types

New service to offer one-stop solution for automatically backing up, sharing, and accessing documents, photos, music and videos from anywhere

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7 /- Sharpcast today introduced a new service code-named "Hummingbird" which allows people to effortlessly manage documents, photos, music and videos across their computer hard drives, mobile devices and the web. By combining fast, rich desktop software with the convenience of the web, Hummingbird replaces cumbersome email attachments, manual web uploads and forgotten backups with an automatic one-stop solution for backup, sharing, accessing and syncing all types of files. Hummingbird frees people from the hassles of managing multiple islands of data and media created on various devices, and eliminates the need to always have web access in order to access and use those files from anywhere.

Sharpcast will demonstrate Hummingbird for the first time today at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco. It was one of thirteen startup companies selected as a prestigious "Launchpad Innovator" from over 200 companies considered by a panel of industry veterans and thought-leaders. Hummingbird will be offered as a commercial service in early 2007, and an Alpha preview version is available now by invitation. People can register to be invited to the Alpha program at sharpcast.com/products .

"It's far too difficult for people to manage all the data and media they have dispersed across various devices, applications and services," said Gibu Thomas, chief executive officer of Sharpcast. "Hummingbird solves this problem in an intuitive way that's person-centric, not device-centric or browser- centric. It makes it irrelevant whether you are online or offline, and eliminates time-consuming web uploads and downloads and emailing files to yourself just to make sure you have access to them."

Hummingbird is built on the same patent-pending universal synchronization platform as the company's first product, Sharpcast Photos. Sharpcast Photos was selected by editors of PC Magazine for the Best of Show award in the category of software innovation at the Digital Life conference in New York last month, an honor shared with other category winners including Microsoft Windows Vista and Sony PlayStation 3. A Free 5GB Sharpcast Photos trial account is available at sharpcast.com .

Tim Bajarin, president of Creative Strategies, said, "Extending the ability to keep consumers' personal files and folders in sync is a natural evolution of Sharpcast's offering and a very important one that makes their software even more exciting to mainstream consumers."

Sharpcast is pioneering a new category of connected applications in which traditional desktop applications can behave as web-enabled services, and web- based services and be enabled offline. Its real-time synchronization technology has been widely noted throughout the industry as a potential catalyst for an emerging class of applications that allow people to work with and enjoy their data and media from anywhere, regardless of what PC or device they're using and whether or not they are connected to the internet.

Thomas continued, "The idea is to transform the web from a part-time destination that's accessible only through web browsers into a powerful backend that's woven into the fabric of desktop PC and mobile device software. The Sharpcast platform builds a bridge between offline applications, online services, and all the devices you use to access them."

Sharpcast sync service APIs extend the company's synchronization capabilities to any type of data, application, web service or device. The company is partnering with independent software developers, wireless and internet service providers and OEM device vendors to deliver Sharpcast-powered connected applications across a broad range of computing platforms. Information about partnering with Sharpcast is available at sharpcast.com/company/partnering .

An innovator in digital media and information synchronization, Sharpcast develops software and services based on their patent-pending universal synchronization platform, which delivers the absolute simplest way for people to back up, share, access and sync their digital content regardless of what device they are on and whether they are online or off. Sharpcast APIs enable select partners to develop connected applications that work seamlessly online and offline, and transform existing applications into services that work across desktop computers, the web and mobile devices.
