Perfigo Launches SecureSmart(TM) WLAN Security and Management Suite
First software-based solution to integrate 802.11 WLAN security, device management and user management into a single, massively scalable platform
San Francisco, California - April 28, 2003 - Perfigo, Inc., an innovator of integrated, software-based wireless LAN (WLAN) security and management solutions, announced today general availability of its SecureSmart(TM) WLAN suite. SecureSmart is designed to securely integrate 802.11 WLANs into an organization's existing network infrastructure, providing hardened WLAN security, as well as complete WLAN user and device management in a single, massively scalable solution. Perfigo customers include Stanford University, Lewis & Clark College and many others.

The Challenge
Organizations worldwide are deploying wireless LAN technology to help improve operational efficiencies and ease of use for their employees. While there are many benefits of a WLAN, it is a well known and well-publicized fact that there are serious security and management issues with the technology as well. Wired equivalency protocol (WEP), the built-in security mechanism for 802.11 devices, has several flaws that make it inadequate for even the simplest of organizational applications. Likewise, once a WLAN reaches a certain size, or when multiple vendors are mixed into a single infrastructure, WLANs can be very difficult to manage and scale.
IT managers have been forced to deploy multiple point solutions from different vendors in the WLAN security and management space. Solutions in the marketplace do not provide a holistic solution to address the security problem, authentication/encryption and the management problems, WLAN device and user.

About SecureSmart(TM)
SecureSmart consists of the following three components, all of which are available for shipment now:
o SecureSmart(TM) Server- SecureSmart Server is the gatekeeper between the wireless network and the rest of the network. It ensures that only authenticated and authorized traffic is allowed to flow from the wireless network to the intranet or Internet. SecureSmart Server also ensures the strongest data protection standards through the use of IPSec with 3DES encryption.
o SmartManager(TM) - SecureSmart Manager provides a centralized, single point of management for the entire WLAN and SecureSmart deployment. SecureSmart Manager manages both hardware (multi-vendor access points, SecureSmart Servers and remote client updates), as well as WLAN security (access control policies, rogue AP management) through a secure web console.
o SecureSmart(TM) Client (optional) - SecureSmart Client is an optional software package that may be installed onto user laptops, making authentication, network/AP detection, encryption setup and rogue reporting easy and automatic.
