Overview

IBM introduces a new tool, DB2® Test Database Generator for Multiplatforms and a new version of DB2 Performance Expert for Multiplatforms and Workgroups.

DB2 Test Database Generator for Multiplatforms V2 - A powerful tool for rapidly producing test data that reflect the real-world conditions of production databases on demand with minimum effort. DB2 Test Database Generator for Multiplatforms:

· Generates test DB2 data for AIX®, Solaris, or Microsoft(TM) Windows(TM) environments easily.

· Makes a copy of, or a scaled down copy of, existing production databases for testing or problem solving.

· Produces test data from scratch, or by copying or sampling existing data sources.

· Detects and reproduces database and application referential integrity.

· Creates and populates DB2 objects.

· Offers a Java(TM)-based interface.

DB2 Performance Expert for Multiplatforms and Workgroups, V2 offers a comprehensive view that consolidates, reports, analyzes, and recommends changes on DB2 performance-related information. Version 2 of this tool offers the following enhancements:

· Requires only one DB2 Performance Expert server per DB2 network.

· Offers new enhancements to the online monitor including an extended system overview, graphs in the details panels, improved navigation and filtering on information listed in tables.

· Lets you monitor exceptional conditions so you can anticipate emerging DB2 performance and availability problems early.

· Introduces new enhancements to the Performance Warehouse including "rules-of-thumb" and direct save of database and buffer pool activities (snapshot).

· Supports new DB2 V8 counters giving you enhanced insight into DB2 Linux, UNIX®, and Windows (LUW) V8 instances.

· Provides full support for DB2 EEE or DB2 ESE/DPF letting you do highly sophisticated performance monitoring of large enterprise systems.

· Provides a plug-in mechanism for the DB2 Control Center giving you a single entry point for DB2 system administration and performance monitoring.
