Original Press Release:

LIS' Dispatcher-WMS Offers Security and Efficiency Benefits for High Technology and Third Party Logistics

LIS has launched the Version 8.0 of Dispatcher-WMS, the market leading warehouse management system. This version includes new functions that improve security and efficiency in warehouses across multiple industries, and are especially important for two of LIS' key markets - the high tech and third party logistics (3PL) sectors.

For companies distributing high tech and/or high value product, Version 8.0 allows suppliers to electronically communicate product serial numbers to customers prior to order receipt. The serial numbers can then be automatically validated as they are received at the customer's warehouse. This advanced function increases security by beginning the tracking of serial numbers at the time of shipment from the supplier. Dispatcher-WMS also tracks the serial numbers of items that have been supplied together, such as a personal computer bundle (PC, monitor and printer), and can also relate the serial numbers of all items within a single delivery. Range scanning maintains traceability by allowing a group of serial numbers to be captured in a single scan, which eliminates the need for warehouse operators to perform tedious, expensive, and time-consuming scanning of the units individually.

To further improve security, Dispatcher-WMS Version 8.0 provides a function that requires users to enter a password before they can access certain types of inventory. The handling of high value goods can be restricted to authorized personnel, avoiding loss and damage, and providing a valuable audit trail.

The existing ASN receiving functions have been improved to enable the automatic printing of bar coded tag and pallet labels on ASN message receipts. This ensures that the items can be received and putaway with maximum efficiency, improving customer service through faster cross docking and priority receipts. Version 8.0 also provides the flexibility to deal with suppliers or carriers that use fax or email, rather than EDI.

Martin Hiscox, CEO of LIS, comments, "We are constantly investing in our products to ensure that we are meeting our customers' operational needs. Ongoing product development, taking into account industry-specific requirements like these, is crucial as we build on our position as a provider of logistics solutions to companies like Panasonic, Sony, and TNT Logistics."

3PL and multi-client features
Simplified checking, packing, and shipping functions use RDT technology to incorporate special packaging instructions, customer specific packaging, and expected and actual weight comparisons. Particularly important to warehouses with high value inventory, the weight checking function serves as an additional quality check, because it considers the customer specific packaging methods and weights. Customer specific packaging is increasingly important in multiple industries and with this new release, LIS' customers will find the process simplified and their customer service improved.

Non-billable activities, such as cleaning, maintenance, or training can now be captured in the system, for querying and reporting at a later time. Dispatcher-WMS can display to operators the time expected to complete these warehouse tasks and can compare them against the actual completion time. Tracking these types of warehouse activities allows management to account for non-productive and non-billable warehouse time.
