Original Press Release:

Powerful Safety Configuration and Diagnostics Software for AS-Interface Safety at Work Network

TWINSBURG, OH - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces version 2.0 of their Windows®-based ASiMON safety configuration software. This intuitive software tool facilitates simple configuration and verification of AS-Interface networked SafetyMonitors and SafetyNodes.

Critical configuration steps are tightly controlled and password protected for enhanced security. During the configuration process, a printable safety log is automatically generated for review and to be included as part of the safety documentation. This safety log can also be retrieved from the SafetyMonitor when necessary.

A user with only marginal exposure to Safety at Work (SaW) can configure the SafetyMonitor within minutes. Users simply define which SafetyNodes are monitored, how the OSSD's are turned off (i.e. Stop Category 0 or Stop Category 1) and how the OSSD's are closed once safety input has been cleared. The configuration is then downloaded to the Monitor. After an electronic sign-off step the system can be activated. Configurations can be as simple (e.g. any configured e-stop will immediately open the OSSD) or as advanced as needed (including timing functions, logic operations, external trigger functions, muting and blanking and startup tests).

In addition to defining the configuration, ASiMON also offers a powerful diagnostics tool. Since every operation of the SafetyMonitor is represented by a graphical "function block," the status of the each function block is displayed on the diagnostics screen. Color indicators are used to show if the OSSD's are open or closed, if the safety inputs are in a STOP position, or if the external triggers are expected.
