AquaLogic Enterprise Repository 2.5 Available Six Weeks After Flashline Acquisition

Core News Facts: 1. BEA is delivering on its unified SOA environment vision with the release of AquaLogic Enterprise Repository (ALER) 2.5. 2. BEA reinforces its commitment to supporting heterogeneous environments; ALER runs on WebLogic and other third-party platforms. 3. ALER is designed to give BEA customers the ability to manage liquid assets and govern the SOA lifecycle.

BEAWORLD 2006 - SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 19 /-- BEA Systems, Inc., a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the release of AquaLogic Enterprise Repository (ALER) 2.5. The fully re-branded new product comes six weeks after BEA's acquisition of Flashline, Inc. and its flagship metadata repository.

ALER, previously known as Flashline 5, is an award-winning metadata repository and now represents a critical component of the AquaLogic product family. The product is designed to provide enterprise-wide visibility into an organization's liquid assets to help reduce IT costs and improve business agility. Using its tracking and analytics, customers have demonstrated cost savings, aligned assets with architecture and business objectives, and improved governance of their IT programs such as Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), enterprise architecture and software reuse.

"As enterprises continue to grow, they are encountering increased complexity in their IT environments. Repositories can be key to providing visibility into their existing asset portfolios and services and optimizing reuse," said Rob Levy, executive vice president and chief technology officer, BEA Systems, Inc. "With this announcement, BEA is continuing its SOA leadership by providing customers with a new version of a proven, market- leading repository which can demonstrate the measurable value of their SOA investments."

ALER is a key component of the BEA SOA 360 platform. Announced today at BEAWorld 2006, the BEA SOA 360 platform is designed to deliver the industry's most unified SOA platform and spans all three of BEA's product families -- AquaLogic, WebLogic(R), Tuxedo and the company's newly unveiled SOA collaborative tooling environment, BEA Workspace 360. (See Sept. 19, 2006, press release titled, "BEA Announces SOA 360; Industry's Most Unified SOA Platform to Transform and Optimize Business.")

ALER runs on the latest release of WebLogic Server, and is designed to support other third-party platforms, such as IBM WebSphere and Apache Tomcat app servers, Oracle database, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2 UDB, and other third-party tools. This reinforces BEA's commitment to supporting heterogeneous environments. In addition, ALER has added support for XPDL, and can provide customers with the ability to store business process assets along with Web services for increased business and IT alignment and impact analysis. Future versions of ALER will be fully integrated with AquaLogic and other BEA products, and will continue to support a full set of third-party tools.
