BT Diamond IP Introduces IPControl(TM) Version 3.0

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 17 /-- BT Diamond IP, a leading provider of software and appliance products that help customers effectively manage complex IP networks, announced today the release of IPControl(TM) version 3.0, which is available on software and Sapphire appliances. Three new features in this release, layer 2 switch discovery, subnet reclaim and IPv6 sparse allocation, are available for the first time in an IP address management (IPAM) solution.

"Many of our customers would like to incorporate layer 2 into the powerful layer 3 discovery and planned versus actual exception reporting in IPControl," stated Michael Dooley, VP Operations, BT Diamond IP. "Our R&D team responded to this need in version 3.0, as well as incorporating subnet reclaim and IPv6 sparse allocation, making IPControl the most comprehensive IPAM solution available today."

Most IPAM solutions contain IP databases based on user entry or DHCP and DNS transactions. IPControl version 3.0 goes further by integrating multilayer discovery in order to query the network, which has two major benefits: 1) it enables IP inventory assurance and 2) it identifies potential access control violations. Layer 2 switch discovery consolidates the information IP managers need to easily identify occupants of given switch ports and IP addresses as well as potential rogue devices.

"Despite the plethora of network access control (NAC) offerings available today, most of the focus is on access discrimination, not post access verification," stated Jim Tiller, Chief Security Officer, BT INS. "The new IPControl layer 2 discovery feature enables security managers to validate their NAC admission policies by periodically auditing users' locations by linking layer 3 IP addresses to layer 2 addresses and switch ports. And when a security alert is triggered for a particular IP address, this linkage in IPControl enables identification of the culprit in seconds - an essential capability for improving reaction time to unauthorized access to the network."

In addition to layer 2 switch discovery, IPControl 3.0 introduces two additional industry firsts.

-- Automated and manual IP address and subnet reclaim to maximize address utilization efficiencies while providing further automation and time savings.

-- Advanced IPv6 address management to enable automated ip6.arpa domain creation, AAAA/PTR resource record automation and three selectable block allocation methods: best-fit, sparse and random.

IPControl version 3.0 also includes the following new features:

-- Enhanced administrator access controls for administrator delegation and for specific block sizes per block type to enable scoping of access and accountability.

-- Additional API/CLIs and callout integration points for automation among IPControl and external systems.

-- Several other policy and usability enhancements to further streamline the IPAM process.

IPControl, available as interchangeable software or secure appliance platforms, provides centralized management of customers' IPv4 and IPv6 address space, as well as creation and deployment of multivendor DHCP and DNS configurations. IPControl provides holistic IPAM support for customers' existing DHCP and DNS infrastructures from Internet Systems Consortium (ISC DHCP, BIND 8 or 9 DNS), Microsoft and BT Diamond IP, including IPControl Sapphire 10 or 20 series DHCP/DNS appliances.

IPControl version 3.0 will be available on April 30, 2007. For more information about IPControl software, IPControl Sapphire appliances and the BT Diamond IP family of products for simplifying the management of complex IP networks, visit bt.diamondip.com/.
