VERITAS Delivers New Advances in Clustering and Replication for an Integrated Disaster Recovery Solution

High availability software delivers essential pillar for utility computing; including features to test, plan and prepare before disaster strikes

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - March 16, 2004 - VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, today announced VERITAS Cluster Server(TM) 4.0 and VERITAS Volume Replicator(TM) 4.0, integrated high availability and disaster recovery software with unique new features that provide capabilities to test, plan and validate disaster recovery scenarios, without disrupting customers' applications. Together, VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator provide a complete solution for high availability and disaster recovery with protection against application downtime and data loss.

VERITAS Cluster Server, an open systems clustering solution designed to minimize both planned and unplanned application and database downtime in heterogeneous environments, provides local high availability, campus clustering, metropolitan disaster recovery and wide area disaster recovery. VERITAS Cluster Server integrates with VERITAS Volume Replicator, which is an essential disaster recovery component for data availability at remote sites. VERITAS Volume Replicator reliably, efficiently, and consistently replicates data to remote locations over any IP network when data loss and prolonged downtime cannot be tolerated.

"As our data and applications grow, it is increasingly important that we create a stable environment for protection against data loss and application downtime," said Aaron Huslage, senior systems administrator, CNF Service Company. "VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator provide us with a clustering and disaster recovery solution to help ensure continuous availability of our mission-critical applications and provide us with the option to test our disaster recovery plan without any impact on our production environment."

Integral to the company's strategy to enable utility computing with customers' existing technology, VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator provide the key building block of data and application availability. With a utility model of computing, data and applications are always available and VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator provide this capability by protecting the end user from a simple system failure right through to a complete site outage.

Key new features in VERITAS Cluster Server 4.0 and VERITAS Volume Replicator 4.0 include:
o Disaster Recovery Fire Drill - Provides capabilities to freely test, plan and validate disaster recovery plans, while in production without disruption.
o Cluster Simulator - Tests application failover scenarios to validate application availability and verify that applications are migrated to the most appropriate server based on a planned failover strategy and application requirements.
o Global Cluster Option - Quickly and easily upgrades to any architecture as availability requirements move from local to wide-area disaster recovery.
o Immediate Access to Replicated Data - Instantly accesses data, as it is being replicated, while only using a fraction of customers' available storage capacity.
o Volume Replicator Advisor - Accurately analyzes bandwidth requirements to ensure replication is optimized.

VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator integrate with additional market-leading VERITAS products to provide enhanced solutions for data protection and storage management and ensure that data and applications are protected regardless of hardware, software or operating system. Extending VERITAS' market leadership in data protection1, VERITAS Cluster Server integrates with VERITAS' flagship backup and recovery software VERITAS NetBackup(TM) to keep NetBackup's master servers highly available. VERITAS Volume Replicator also integrates with NetBackup to reduce recovery time associated with the backup catalog.

In addition, VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator integrate with recently announced VERITAS Storage Foundation(TM) 4.0, which includes VERITAS Volume Manager, the market-leading storage virtualization software and VERITAS File System, an industry standard file system, to manage multiple operating systems across storage devices and databases, helping to ensure continuous availability of mission-critical data.

"We continue to provide our customers industry leading clustering and disaster recovery solutions to safeguard their mission critical data and applications and facilitate ease in testing disaster recovery scenarios," said Shmuel Goshen, VP of engineering, VERITAS Software. "With this major upgrade of VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator, we are providing our customers a key building block as they evolve to a utility computing model by ensuring that data and applications are always highly available."
