Arc Second Announces Developer Program for its Position-Based Products and Services

Team 3Di Developer Program based on the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework

DULLES, Virginia - March 19, 2003 - Arc Second, Inc., the provider of award-winning mobile engineering solutions and Indoor GPS technology, today announced the launch of its new Team 3Di Software developer program.

The Team 3Di developer program is being launched to enable developers to tap into the emerging field of Position Based Services (PBS). Similar to Location Based Services, PBS combines real-time position information with graphical data and enterprise systems to deliver a range of new capabilities to end users. Unlike Location Based Services, PBS is focused on indoor applications in manufacturing, robotics, precision mapping and other applications where highly accurate coordinate information is required.

Arc Second, has re-architected its diverse product lines to take advantage of the new capabilities. The result has been increased modularity across the company's hardware and software platforms. "Indoor GPS combined with handheld CAD capabilities is revolutionizing the way in which large products are assembled and manufactured across all industries", stated Edward Barrientos, Arc Second's President and CEO. "Our new Microsoft .NET Compact Framework based SDK provides our growing customer base with powerful new tools to customize and expand their Position Based applications."

"Arc Second is at the leading edge in bringing the power of the .NET Compact Framework to position sensitive applications," Ed Kaim, product manager for the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "We expect the .NET Compact Framework will open up a new level of innovation in mobile applications. Arc Second's Position Based Services is a great example of that."

The Team 3Di program includes an SDK based on the Microsoft .NET Framework, allowing the applications to be server-based, PC-based or PocketPC-based. The re-architecting of Arc Second's product line, including PocketCAD for the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework, allows for a new range of mobile client-based opportunities for developers. Commercial developers will now be able to embed Arc Second's industry-leading mobile CAD technology into their own mobile applications. Developers can work in a variety of Microsoft languages including Visual Basic .NET and Visual C# .NET. Companies and organizations including Bentley, Boeing, SAIC, Carnegie Mellon University and the US Army are already members of Team 3Di.
