Coreco Imaging Releases Sapera Processing 5
Powerful new version of award-winning image processing and analysis library is hardware independent, includes new geometric-based tools for pattern recognition and alignment
MONTREAL, QUEBEC (July 14, 2003) - Coreco Imaging, a leading developer of high-performance machine vision products, today announced the release of Sapera Processing 5, a newly optimized version of its Windows® -based Sapera software for image processing and analysis. This hardware-independent package now includes a highly advanced geometric location tool (SEARCH) that quickly and accurately recognizes multiple objects and patterns, regardless of their orientation and scale. The inclusion of these and other tools that will be introduced in the near future-including blob analysis, OCR/OCV and matrix decoding-further extends Sapera's functionality to developers in the semiconductor, electronics and automotive industries.

Powerful processing tools
Sapera Processing 5 is modular in design and optimized for speed using MMX(TM), SSE(TM) (Streaming SIMD Extensions) and SSE2 to meet the challenging performance requirements of today's inspection systems. Tools currently available for the Sapera Processing 5 platform include:
o SEARCH, a powerful tool that matches patterns to determine location and alignment, includes correlation-based and geometric-based algorithms to achieve accuracy up to 1/40th of a pixel. Designed to work under poor and uneven lighting conditions, SEARCH's fast, robust and accurate algorithms are well suited for demanding alignment applications in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
o The IMAGE PROCESSING tool incorporates a series of highly optimized basic image processing functions, including: filtering, geometry, measurement, morphology, point-to-point, segmentation and transform operations.
Future releases of Sapera Processing 5 will feature additional toolsets for advanced manufacturing and machine vision functions. The OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION (OCR) TOOLSET will support both solid and dot matrix fonts, user trainable fonts and scale/rotational invariance. The BLOB ANALYSIS TOOLSET, which is designed to separate foreground objects from the background, calculates more than 50 spatial and grayscale blob features, including area, location, perimeter, elongation, roundness, convexity, bounding box and orientation. The BARCODE TOOLSET locates and decodes "UNI" and 2 dimensional bar codes for a variety of standard codes. Designed to operate on degraded and poorly illuminated images, the BARCODE TOOLSET includes rapid, robust algorithms and functions.
Hardware independent
To enable greater development flexibility, Sapera Processing 5 is designed to operate independently of any image or data acquisition hardware. The software supports the full range of Coreco Imaging hardware through the native services of Sapera LT and Imaging Studio. The software ensures application portability across current and future Coreco Imaging frame grabbers and vision processors. Sapera Processing 5 can also be used with other frame grabbers for truly independent functionality.
Applications and availability
Sapera Processing 5 is designed to simplify development and provide advanced image processing and analysis functionality in a range of industries and applications, including general image enhancement, BGA inspections and semiconductor lead inspection. The OCR Tool's ability to operate on significantly degraded images makes it ideal for applications in the pharmaceutical, electronics manufacturing and semiconductor industries.
