Overview
Better protect your critical business applications from failures with the world-spanning capabilities of IBM High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing for AIX® 5L, V5.1.0 (HACMP V5.1).

For over 10 years, IBM HACMP has provided reliable high availability services, monitoring customers' IBM eserver pSeries(TM) servers and dependably performing application fallover to backup servers. When used with IBM Enterprise Storage Subsystem (ESS) Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) hardware, HACMP has recently provided new real-time data mirroring for critical business needs. Additionally, IBM HAGEO software has provided unlimited distance IP-based data mirroring that offers both automatic fallover and resynchronization of valuable data to and from a distant backup site. IBM HAGEO has been the D.H. Brown "Number One Rated" Disaster Recovery Solution for UNIX®-based Mission-Critical Applications.

Now HACMP 5.1.0 offers not only improved usability, functionality, and performance, but also a new optional package, HACMP/XD (Extended Distance), that will offer multiple data backup and disaster recovery technologies. HACMP/XD will provide extended distance for ESS/PPRC peers and unlimited distance for IP-connected peers using proven IBM HAGEO technology.

Now you have a single, world-class source of protection for your mission-critical applications.

New V5 features include:
o Consolidation of all previous forms of HACMP (HAS, CRM, ES, and ESCRM) into one single valuable HACMP offering
o Fast Disk Fallover - takes less than 10 seconds for disks to fallover, minimizing application downtime
o Simplified configuration through streamlined user interface, reducing decision points
o Heartbeat by shared disk - offers additional protection against network-partitioned cluster data divergence
o Enhanced security mechanism, removing need for /.rhosts
o Integrated Cluster File System option utilizing General Parallel File System (GPFS) 1.5
o Performance rewrite of cluster verification and Cluster Single-Point-Of-Control - increases administrative productivity
o Customized control of startup and fallback application and resource behavior
o Optional HACMP/XD feature

Key Prerequisites
o AIX 5L V5.1 or V5.2, or later
o pSeries servers with adequate slots for your disk and network adapters in a no-single-point-of-failure configuration

Planned Availability Dates
o July 11, 2003: HACMP V5 and XD feature containing support for ESS/PPRC
o October 17, 2003: HACMP V5 XD feature with additional support for IP-based mirroring

Description
HACMP V5 is IBM's industry-leading high availability cluster technology offering for customers in the business-on-demand world, providing significant improvement in usability, faster performance, and new data backup and disaster recovery capabilities. HACMP 5.1.0 supports clusters of up to 32 servers with extensive capabilities: cluster management, status monitoring, concurrent shared-access management, and automated data backup and disaster recovery.

HACMP V5 includes all of the functions previously included in HACMP V4: HAS, ES, CRM, and ESCRM. This simplification enables you to easily take advantage of, and achieve all of the benefits of, all of the traditional functions and powers of HACMP.

HACMP V5 provides base services for cluster membership, system management, configuration integrity and control, fallover, and recovery for up to 32 servers or nodes. Easy-to-use status and monitoring facilities are included. Scalability functionality provides these capabilities across entire clusters and allows customers to define their own HACMP events and monitor their applications. HACMP V5 fully supports administration of AIX 5L Enhanced Concurrent Mode, thus providing concurrent shared-access management for all supported disk subsystems.

HACMP V5's new XD option provides automated data backup and disaster recovery across geographically dispersed geographies, enabling you to protect business-critical applications and provide 24 x 7 service to your customers and staff.

HACMP V5 takes advantage of Reliable Scalable Cluster Technology (RSCT) features of AIX 5L to bring greater scalability. HACMP clusters with both nonconcurrent and concurrent access can have up to 32 nodes. A node is an AIX 5L operating system image, and it may be a pSeries or RS/6000® server, an RS/6000 SP(TM) node, or an LPAR of an applicable pSeries system.
