MSC.Software Strengthens CAD-Embedded Simulation Portfolio With MSC.Dynamic Designer for Autodesk Inventor and Solid Edge

New CAD-Embedded Products Give Engineers Sophisticated, Easy-to Use Virtual Product Development Tools

SANTA ANA, Calif. -December 2, 2002 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the world's leading provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced the expansion of the Company's CAD-embedded product portfolio with MSC.Dynamic Designer for Autodesk Inventor and Solid Edge. MSC.Dynamic Designer enables engineers to create motion models from CAD assemblies, simulate the dynamic motion of the assemblies and view animations and XY plots of resulting motion without leaving the CAD Environment.

"Every manufacturer in the world is looking for ways to increase their productivity while decreasing costs and virtual product development is the best way to do that," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "By investing in virtual product development technologies like CAD-embedded analysis tools, manufacturers can realizing significant cost and time savings in product development. When engineers are considering investments in analysis tools, they should look to MSC.Software first. The new MSC.Dynamic Designer products position us well to meet the customer demand for these integrated simulation tools."

According to market research firm Daratech, the market for computer-aided engineering tools like MSC.Dynamic Designer is expected to grow between 10-11% in 2003.

The MSC.Dynamic Designer product line is focused on enabling design engineers with sophisticated, easy to use, seamlessly embedded simulation tools to answer questions about product performance inside their CAD environment. In addition to saving time and money during the design process, engineers can have better confidence in the performance of their designs before prototypes are built and tested.

The newest versions of MSC.Dynamic Designer include six significant enhancements including:

Animated Result Graphics: This feature allows users to visualize arrows representing forces on parts as well as view displacement, velocity and acceleration vectors.

Realistic Animated Springs: Engineers now have a realistic representation of spring characteristics such as diameter and number of coils.

Contact Containers: Contact containers significantly reduce the workload in building models with multiple 3-D contacts, making defining contact properties between many different bodies fast and easy.

Isotropic bushings: the bushing element allows engineers to add flexible connections in mechanisms where they occur in real life. This helps provide a more realistic load distribution during a simulation.

Automation API: This tool allows users to use Visual Basic or Visual C++ to drive MSC.Dynamic Designer, providing a powerful way to customize the product and provide additional pre and post-processing options.

MSC.ADAMS 12.0 Solver: Resulting in faster solve time and improved 3-D contact, the MSC.ADAMS solver underlies the MSC.Dynamic Designer product line.
