Latest Entrust Solution to Bring Content Control to Instant Messaging, Web Mail and Email

Entrust to expand content control offering to provide flexible, scalable protection for organizations to monitor and control employee communication

DALLAS, Feb. 8 /-- Every day, hundreds of billions of electronic messages are exchanged worldwide. If just one of those messages contains sensitive or inappropriate information, and proper security controls are not in place, that message could wreak havoc on a company's reputation, customer confidence and could also have regulatory and legal repercussions. That is why Entrust, Inc. (NASDAQ:ENTU), a world leader in securing digital identities and information, has introduced Entrust Entelligence(TM) Content Control Server 8.0.

This next evolution of Entrust's content control platform expands beyond email to help empower organizations to monitor, protect and report on content as it flows across a broad range of communication protocols, including instant messaging (IM), file transfer protocol (FTP), file uploads and web mail applications such as MSN Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo! and others.

"With tools like instant messaging, CIOs are caught in a conundrum. They want to boost employee productivity but are required to enforce stringent corporate and regulatory policies," said Entrust Senior Vice President Kevin Simzer. "Also, because 96 percent of the companies we surveyed with Osterman Research have experienced a sensitive data leak -- 44 percent on a weekly basis -- organizations have to find a way to help safeguard against the unauthorized flow of information leaving or entering an enterprise."

Entrust Entelligence Content Control Server 8.0 monitors and analyzes communication flowing through a network. Then it offers the ability to set automatic policies that can result in taking specific actions like encrypting, restricting, archiving or reporting -- all from the same vendor. This flexibility can not only help provide security for sensitive customer data, but can also help in monitoring for inappropriate communication between employees including harassment and leakage of sensitive intellectual property. This functionality can be a valuable tool to help address both regulatory compliance and corporate governance requirements.

Eighty-three percent of reported data loss is accidental, the Osterman survey cited. Because of the proliferation of information exchange with outsource partners, the increase in the number of communication tools used by employees, and the increasing competitive and industry pressure to protect intellectual property, organizations have shifted focus from managing outside security risks to inside ones.

IDC confirms that this loss of sensitive information is a significant concern. "There exists a strong requirement for content monitoring and control solutions that go beyond email and include communications such as IM, the web and FTP," said Brian Burke, IDC Program Manager. "Additionally, the use of automated and selective encryption based on policy can help avoid interruption in communications or the accidental leakage of sensitive information."

"We view this market as a high growth area for us as it includes encryption, audit capability, compliance officer notification and archival capabilities," adds Simzer. "We believe that our expertise in these spaces gives us a competitive advantage over other solutions available in the market today."

Entrust Entelligence Content Control Server 8.0 has been designed to offer a flexible range of deployment options for various types of customers. Organizations will be able to simply monitor or audit content as it flows through their networks to gain an understanding of content usage patterns while identifying areas for potential remediation. They will also be able to deploy more advanced prevention and protection tools that will help actively enforce corporate policy, for example quarantining, blocking or even automatically encrypting email messages as required.

The new multi-protocol capabilities of the Entrust Entelligence Content Control Server 8.0 are scheduled to be commercially available in April, 2006.
