Software perfects tool specification before grinding.

Press Release Summary:

Based on company's machine environment, CIM3D models, tests, and optimizes grinding process before tool is ground on machine. It measures distance, probe, shadowgraph, and protractor during grinding process. Projection arrangement offers view of modeling process simultaneously from different perspectives on one screen. Users can view details on each pass made by grinding wheel and calculate relief, hook, helix, and axial rake angles for any point on tool.

CIM3D - What you see is what you grind

Melbourne - ANCA's 'CIM3D' is one of the first of its kind in the tool and cutter industry. CIM3D is used to develop new tools by modelling, testing and optimise the grinding process before the tools in ground on an ANCA machine. This enables users to increase productivity by perfecting the tool specification before the grinding function.

The CIM3D accuracy system
CIM3D is part of ANCA's ToolRoom software suite. Others in the family are iGrind, iBurr, iFlute and iProfile. The features provided by the CIM3D software are machine components modeling, colour coding, cross-sectioning, measurements and projection arrangements.

Based on the ANCA machine environment which requires simulation, CIM3D supports the display of machine components such as the headstock on the TX7+ and P-axis bush on the TGX. Colour coding function allows a grinding process to be displayed in colour coded mode to demonstrate grinding process and mapping wheel surface to the sections of ground tool. CIM3D is also able to measure distance, probe, shadowgraph and protractor during the grinding process, which minimizes errors dramatically. Projection arrangement provides the user a view of the modeling process simultaneously from different perspectives on one screen.

The overall benefits from these features are: time saving - no trial grinding are required; increased production level - since the machine is used only for production, not for testing; increased efficiency from no wastage in material; user friendly interface; ease in parameters modification and it is available in English, French, German and Japanese. Additional benefits include the ability to examine tools shape from any perspective by panning, rotating and zooming for the best view; view details on each pass made by the grinding wheel and calculate relief, hook, helix and axial rake angles for any point on the tool. CIM3D results in the increase in simulation speed by up to 75 per cent.
