MGE UPS SYSTEMS Introduces Atlas Power Infrastructure Software Suite

Web-Based Power Management Offers Enhanced Monitoring, Configuration and Control of Multiple UPS Brands and Power Devices from Central Console

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Sept. 13, 2004 - MGE UPS SYSTEMS, the technology leader in providing unsurpassed power protection solutions to computer data centers, telecommunications and industrial operations, has introduced its new Atlas suite of software designed to be the most powerful and robust web-based device monitoring and control platform on the market today. From a central console, this comprehensive software suite enables network administrators to oversee popular brands of UPS and power device equipment including Power Distribution Units (PDUs), smart switches, rack monitoring equipment, and environmental monitoring devices. Scalable for small or large enterprise environments, Atlas' seamless interface integrates point-to-point or centralized enterprise-level monitoring and inventory management to allow ease in managing power protection equipment.

"With our new Atlas software, network administrators can monitor, control and configure power protection equipment from the convenience of a secured web browser interface regardless of equipment brand. Not only can IT and facility managers keep an eye on their MGE equipment like never before, but now they have a way to monitor all of their power protection equipment together from a standard web browser. Today's IT managers can truly be road-warrior troubleshooters," said Long Tran, enterprise networks product marketing director.

Providing more than just traditional UPS monitoring, the single-user version web-based Atlas software provides comprehensive viewing and management for one or more power protection devices and enables preventative maintenance on systems. The standard Atlas package consists of two major components, the Management Server and the Remote Shutdown Agent. Using a standard Web browser, remote users will always be aware of equipment status with Atlas' graphical view of real-time UPS operating characteristics, point-to-point UPS monitoring and control, and view of event, application, UPS data and maintenance logs. Moreover, using simple browser tools, administrators can receive power alarms via broadcast, SNMP or email notification, and set up automatic actions. They can also perform graceful unattended shutdown of UPS equipment and operating systems (OSs) during extended power outages. The Management Server also makes configuration easy with UPS autodiscovery to search for UPSs, web servers, SNMP and Telnet devices. Atlas supports a broad array of OSs including Microsoft Windows platforms, HP-UX 11, 11i - UNIX platforms and Linux.

MGE takes power infrastructure monitoring to a whole new level with its Atlas Enterprise device monitoring, control and inventory suite. From a central location Atlas Enterprise is able to keep track of hundreds to thousands of devices regardless of the equipment brand including PDUs from Baytech, CyberswitchingC", and Digipower; power supplies from C&C Power DC; rack and environmental monitoring devices from Sinetica; DellC Ethernet switches; a wide array of UPSs and many more network infrastructure devices. This allows unsurpassed monitoring and maintenance for today's multi-brand, multi-device, power protection network architectures. Atlas Enterprise also provides real-time auto status updates and alarm monitoring; centralized event logging and configuration of Atlas client software; device autodiscovery; and a configurable hierarchy structure. Atlas Enterprise software supports Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP Professional SP1 or Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition. Required web browsers include Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 for Microsoft platforms - or Netscape and Mozilla for UNIX - with Macromedia Flash Player 7.0. The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine SP3 database is also required for Atlas Enterprise.

An Atlas Enterprise Advanced edition is also available that provides support for 5 layers of nested groups, customized layouts, and icon views of groups and devices with user selectable background images. Users can import custom graphic files such as a data center layout or select from more than 70 available background images along with icon representations to map the physical layout of data center devices. In addition, users can customize the nested layer interfaces with their own specific building and datacenter layouts. This enables IT and facility managers to develop a "DNA" composition of the entire networked environment. Finally, all Atlas products allow users to perform a network-based command set of batch executables to connected devices connected to the UPSs, thus enabling preemptive maintenance and network based updates for all protected equipment.

True to its commitment to affordable solutions, MGE's new Atlas software is available for just $100 per licensed user. Atlas Enterprise supports up to 100 nodes and is $1,000 per licensed administrator. For unlimited node and multi-nested hierarchy layer support, Atlas Enterprise Advanced is available for $4,500 per licensed administrator. All software is available from authorized MGE resellers or from the MGE website at www.mgeups.com/us/atlas.com.
