SimSci-Esscor Releases Pipephase Simulation Program

New release offers greater flexibility in optimizing multi-phase flow for oil and gas production, transmission and distribution networks

BREA, Calif., Nov. 25, 2002 -- SimSci-Esscor, an operating unit of Invensys plc, today announced the release of the latest version of its Pipephase® fluid flow simulator. Many of the world's leading exploration and production companies use Pipephase software to simulate and optimize multi-phase flow in oil and gas production, transmission and distribution networks.

Some of the main functional enhancements of the new version 8.0 of Pipephase include a new pipeline device that allows users to copy/paste pipeline profiles from spreadsheets and automatic generation of results in a Microsoft® Access database format. Version 8.0 also enables users to generate Vertical Flow Performance (VFP) tables or import them from third-party applications.

"The Pipephase simulator is considered to be one of the global industry standard among petroleum producers," said Ken Brown, vice president and general manager of SimSci-Esscor. "SimSci-Esscor has continually invested in Pipephase software to maintain its core strengths and add ever-increasing convenience and power for the end user. Version 8.0 demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to delivering leading-edge tools for petroleum producers."

A new, COM-compliant API layer enables other COM-compliant applications, such as Excel, to control Pipephase execution externally. Other new "openness" features in Pipephase version 8.0 include the use of standard spreadsheet formats for data entry tables, which support copy/paste features and tab navigation. Version 8.0 also offers a longer list of decision variables for Netopt(TM) field optimization calculations.

New Pipephase users will find the new initialization "wizard" to be helpful in successful problem setup. Other technical enhancements include the Gilbert family of critical-flow choke models, full tracking of Wobbe Index and GHV values for all multiphase fluid types, the ability to enter multiple DP/DT curves for fixed inlet or outlet pressures, and a new algorithm for solving high-GOR problems.
