BEAWORLD 2006 - PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Oct. 10 -- BEA Systems, Inc., a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the release of AquaLogic Enterprise Security (ALES) 2.5, an entitlement and centralized policy management solution designed for custom enterprise applications across heterogeneous environments. ALES 2.5 offers a new UI that can help business users to manage user roles and entitlements and new capabilities for transactional management operations and auditing. This latest version of ALES also features internationalization capabilities.

ALES is designed to help strengthen security and compliance, increase IT efficiency, and enhance business agility by decoupling security logic from applications and to help provide consistent policy administration, enforcement and auditing across custom applications in the enterprise. It can help enhance overall enterprise security by leveraging and extending existing investments in custom and third-party security technologies through an open, interoperable, and standards-based architecture. ALES is also designed to combine centralized security policy control with delegated administration, while still providing enterprise-class high performance, scalability and reliability.

"Today, security must be a business enabler that can ensure that an organization's applications can meet business requirements and address security or compliance needs," said Paul Patrick, Vice President and Chief Architect for AquaLogic, BEA Systems, Inc. "Because SOA components are developed independently of any specific host platform, application usage scenario or geographical region, underlying security infrastructures must also evolve and adapt. With the addition of internationalization support, new entitlements UI and transactional capabilities, ALES 2.5 is designed to extend the enterprise's ability to rapidly adapt to application usage requirements, regardless of where an organization does business."

ALES is central to the AquaLogic product family, which is part of the BEA SOA 360 platform. Announced last month at BEAWorld 2006 San Francisco, the BEA SOA 360 platform is designed to deliver the industry's most unified SOA platform and spans all three of BEA's product families, AquaLogic, WebLogic, Tuxedo and the company's newest product initiative, BEA Workspace 360. (See Sept. 19, 2006, press release titled "BEA Announces SOA 360; Industry's most unified SOA Platform to transform and optimize business.")

ALES designed to deliver compliance and flexibility in entitlement management, including internationalization support

New features in BEA ALES 2.5 include:
o New Entitlements User Interface (UI). The new UI is designed to allow
business users to manage user entitlements based on employee roles.
This can help enable businesses to easily allocate entitlements by
mapping user roles to the resources that are available to them. This
user-friendly interface can help provide a greater degree of
flexibility for managing security roles in a large enterprise.
o Transactional Management Operations. ALES 2.5 is designed to provide
new capabilities for transactional management operations and auditing.
Multiple management operations can be defined as a transaction for
which all operations must succeed or be rolled back. Audit events are
also transactional in ALES 2.5
o Internationalization. Multi-byte character support designed to enable
the use of user names and passwords, role/group names and other
attribute values, application context and error messages, warnings and
audits in any language. This can help enable administrators within
multi-national organizations to manage security entitlements in local
languages with internationalized user-facing functionality.
