IBM WebSphere Everyplace Device Manager V5 Offers Device Management for Service Providers



Overview

WebSphere® Everyplace(TM) Device Manager (WEDM) V5 is a member of the WebSphere Everyplace Service Delivery (WESD) family of products targeted to assist service provider in building their application. WEDM provides a centralized control function to help manage end-user devices, and it is designed to function as a "middleware" component within a broader service delivery platform architecture.

WEDM supports open standards management protocols:

· Open Mobile Alliance Device Management 1.1.2 (SyncML DM)

· WEDM support for this standard includes profile bootstrapping and remote notification for server-initiated management sessions

· Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi)

WEDM also enables native, agent-based client management for Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices-based on the following:

· Palm operating systems

· Microsoft(TM) Windows(TM) CE operating systems up to and including PocketPC

· Microsoft Windows 32-bit operating systems, primarily Windows 2000, XP Pro, and Tablet

Key prerequisites

· Passport Advantage® Agreement

· A processor with one of the following operating systems

- AIX® V5.1, AIX 5L, or AIX V5.2

- Sun Solaris 8 or Sun Solaris 9

- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Advanced
