SlickEdit Announces Visual SlickEdit v8 OEM Edition

New code editing solutions provide companies with more opportunities to gain competitive advantage, reduce time-to-market and save development costs

Morrisville, NC - July 29, 2003 - SlickEdit® Inc. today announced the immediate availability of Visual SlickEdit® v8 OEM Edition. With this new major release, companies can now take advantage of SlickEdit's newest code editing products to integrate into their own solutions or to customize and re-brand as their own. Business benefits of the OEM Edition include gaining competitive advantage by offering best-in-class code editing and file differencing capabilities, increasing time-to-market for their solutions and saving development costs.

Visual SlickEdit v8 OEM Edition includes new and enhanced Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), including a new Debug API, libraries and sample applications for the Visual SlickEdit editor control and the DIFFzilla(tm) file, directory and directory tree differencing engine. Also included are the newest versions of the Visual SlickEdit code editor and the Visual SlickEdit Plug-In for WebSphere Studio & Eclipse.

The OEM Edition provides companies with four different integration opportunities:
o Integrate the Visual SlickEdit edit window into their application to supplement the functionality of their solution
o Integrate the Visual SlickEdit Plug-In for WebSphere Studio & Eclipse into their Eclipse-based application for advanced editing capabilities
o Integrate the feature-rich DIFFzilla(tm) differencing and merge engine into their application to add value and differentiate their product
o Customize and re-brand the entire Visual SlickEdit product to meet their needs for a best-in-class code editor and framework.

To accelerate integration and customization, the Visual SlickEdit v8 OEM Guide now documents more APIs and provides additional usage assistance to accelerate development. A separate Slick-C Macro Programming Guide helps with further customization. To ensure integration and business success, SlickEdit also provides business and technical assistance, product discounts, marketing support and product roadmap information for strategic product planning.

Products Included in the v8 OEM Edition

Visual SlickEdit v8 is the most comprehensive and flexible code editor available. It provides superior code editing tools for intelligent coding assistance, file/directory tree differencing and 3-way merge editing, along with syntax expansion, argument completion, auto lists, aliases, SmartPaste(tm) and code beautifiers to help speed up coding. Navigation tools, symbol references and look-up, Javadoc comments and online help enable faster comprehension and coding. It includes FTP/SFTP support, shared tagging database capability, and many other tools to speed up distributed projects. It supports over 40 languages and is available on Windows, Linux, Solaris SPARC, AIX, HP-UX and IRIX platforms.

Visual SlickEdit Plug-In v8 for WebSphere Studio & Eclipse is the advanced code editor for Eclipse-based products that goes well beyond the Eclipse built-in editor. It is the most comprehensive and flexible Eclipse-based editor available for C/C++, C#, COBOL, HTML, Java, XML and many other languages and encodings. It is highly customizable within the Eclipse framework and is available on Windows and Linux platforms.

The DIFFzilla differencing engine provides critical, and often missing or limited, functionality within the software development lifecycle by allowing developers to view which symbols and functions were changed or added in new versions, view what changed on each line and merge three versions of a file back into one with a new, intuitive interface. Unlike most differencing products, DIFFzilla allows developers to edit and update files being compared in real time, thereby saving considerable development time. Slick-C macros allow easy customization of commands, dialogs, configurations and settings.
