Overview
DB2 Universal Database® (UDB is the premier database platform for Business Intelligence (BI) data warehousing solution deployments). DB2® UDB Data Warehouse Edition (DWE) builds on DB2 and embodies IBM's vision for BI as a cornerstone of information on demand. With DWE, you can:
o Build BI function into the database
o Make it accessible solely through open, standard interfaces, as part of an integrated BI platform
o Collaborate with partners for other layers of architecture

DB2 has been steadily moving down a path of supporting increasing BI function inside the database. The latest release of DB2 DWE further empowers customers and partners to perform mining, online analytical processing (OLAP), extract, transform, and load (ETL), and advanced analytics with a single
unified engine operating on common data structures within a consolidated data warehouse. DB2 DWE combines the same carefully selected set of IBM BI products to provide the essential infrastructure needed to extend the enterprise data
warehouse as a platform for BI.

DB2 delivers the core strengths of scaling, platform portability, flexibility, extensibility, availability, and manageability. It also brings all the benefits of IBM's services, support, and customer partnership capabilities.

What's new?
DWE V8.2 delivers key usability enhancements in two vital areas:
o OLAP - New federation capabilities allow DB2 Cube Views to accelerate queries from many data sources, including eserver iSeries(TM), IBM eserver zSeries®, and third-party databases. DB2
Cube Views V8.2 also includes enhancements to allow DBAs to
create smaller, more efficient summary tables.
o Data mining - Continuing to focus on Easy Mining, DWE 8.2
introduces a new, highly accurate algorithm from IBM Research that requires no input parameters makes numeric prediction with
DB2 faster and more effective. New Easy Mining procedures
make developing powerful applications with built-in data mining fast and simple. All of the algorithms for data mining are
now more robust, and model quality information is easily accessible.

IBM introduces DB2 UDB Data Warehouse Base Edition which is
designed to offer mid- and large-scale enterprises data
warehouse and datamart infrastructure that includes DB2 and
integrated OLAP capability for superior scalability and performance.
