Original Press Release:

ScanDEX-IX® Software Speeds Migration of Paper Archives to Digital Repository

Rockville, MD, August 6, 2004 - IDEAL's newest addition to its ScanDEX software line is ScanDEX-IX. ScanDEX-IX adds browser-based document distribution to the already powerful scan, index and archive features of ScanDEX Pro to more easily facilitate the migration of paper, film and aperture card archives to a digital print room.

ScanDEX-IX

With ScanDEX-IX, users scan images, store and index them in a database with an unlimited number of fields for easy retrieval. Images are stored as files in sub-directories named by index field values, i.e. project numbers. Various indexing features are included: Automatically loads images to be indexed, automatically zooms to area on image for each field, use of default values, use of macros, and more. ScanDEX-IX supports multiple scanners on a single workstation to speed up the archiving process. Multi-page management is also supported.

ScanDEX-IX works in three modes: Design, Insert and Query. In Design mode you can define your database and index fields. In Insert mode you control the incoming scanned documents with automated document indexing using text zones and OCR to capture title block information. In Query mode you can work with the archive. The new IX feature uses IntraNETIX® technology to enable users to access the scan controller using a web browser, allowing them to search, view, and print stored documents from their desktops remotely.

"Imagine enabling every person in your department with the ability to find, see, and print any document they need at any time and at any place," says Sean Eikenbery, developer of ScanDEX-IX. Eikenbery continues, "The ScanDEX-IX web browser-based scan controller unleashes the power of internetworking, database connectivity, and document rendering, allowing easy quality control of your entire archive."

In addition, ScanDEX-IX enables archiving to CD and DVD, with document data that behaves the same way on disc as it did online; it supports many native document file formats, including CAD, Office and Imaging formats; and, it enables sharing of costly wide format network printers and plotter and it supports multiple databases. ScanDEX-IX is upgradeable to Enterprise Document Management and Plan Room Applications.

An evaluation version of ScanDEX-IX is available free of charge from sales@ideal.com.

ScanDEX-IX supports the entire line of IDEAL/Contex, Vidar, Océ, GTCO Calcomp wide format scanners and supports ISIS and TWAIN scanners. ScanDEX-IX can also acquire and index existing documents from your network.
