Symbion Systems Releases Version 2.0 of Its Standardized Analytical Instrument Software

IRVINE, Calif., February 25, 2008 - Symbion Systems, Inc., a leader in providing analytical instrument control, analysis, and connectivity software, today announced the release of Symbion-LX, Version 2.0. The new version preserves all of the advanced features of Version 1.3 while adding several new capabilities, including a significantly expanded instrument control and spectroscopic data processing capabilities. The result is a true universal "Spectroscopic Data System" for use in LIMS and pharmaceutical developments, and other environments.

In common with the earlier versions of Symbion-LX Version 2.0 provides a standardized platform for controlling a wide range of spectrometers and other analytical instruments. In addition, it provides comprehensive data manipulation and application development capabilities as well as the ability to communicate with numerous chemometric routines, other third party programs, and enterprise-wide data systems.

With Version 2.0, Symbion-LX becomes a fully Windows(TM) compliant program, with attractive features such as the ability to integrate analytical data into reports written in Word(TM) or other Windows programs. At the same time, it provides a high degree of data and user interface standardization while supporting all of the unique requirements of specific instruments. This is made possible by a series of tabbed windows, some of which - such as "Data Manipulation" and "Math" - are the same for all instruments. Others, such as the "Instrument Control" are specific to individual instruments. The user simply selects the instrument he wishes to operate and the instrument control panel will be customized for that instrument. Finally, Version 2.0 provides the capability of storing data either as files or in a modern SQL database. The latter provides comprehensive search capability as wells as ease of handoff of data to other software entities such as multivariate programs and data historians.

Pittcon 2008

The Symbion-LX, Version 2.0 will be exhibited at Axiom's booth (#4323) at the upcoming Pittcon Conference in New Orleans.

About Symbion Systems, Inc.

Symbion Systems, Inc. was founded in 2002 to develop and market standardized instrument control and data management software for the analytical instrument and process analysis industries. A major milestone in the Symbion program occurred during 2006 with the signing of a product licensing and joint development agreement with General Electric Fanuc Automation (gefanuc@gefanuc.com). Under the agreement, GE has acquired the primary marketing rights to the Life Sciences Process markets and the two companies have agreed to share in, and coordinate, all developments related to the Symbion product lines for at least five years. Symbion retains the primary rights to analytical laboratory markets and to process markets other than Life Sciences.
