Oracle Announces General Availability of Oracle® Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3

Unique 'Top-Down' Application Management Approach to Manage Oracle and Non-Oracle IT Resources Enables IT to Stay Focused on What Matters to Business

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., March 13 /-- Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) today announced the general availability of Oracle(R) Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3, the latest release of Oracle's enterprise management solution. Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 includes increased management capabilities for packaged applications and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) applications, Oracle Fusion Middleware as well as significantly improved lifecycle management capabilities.

Oracle today also announced the general availability of Oracle Application Management Packs for the Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle's Siebel CRM -- making Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 the industry's most complete application management solution. Oracle introduced the Oracle Management Pack for PeopleSoft Enterprise in October 2006. With these new capabilities, customers can manage their applications and underlying infrastructure to help improve application availability and business transaction performance with a single, integrated management solution.

Spanning applications, middleware, and database management, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3's unique "top-down" approach enables Information Technology (IT) departments to focus on what matters to the business -- greater agility, better service quality and lower operational costs. Oracle Enterprise Manager enables its 21,000-plus customers to manage their applications from top to bottom -- from monitoring service levels to proactively isolating exceptions before they impact business, and remediating issues at any level of the IT stack.

"Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 brings a top-down management approach to application management -- whether Oracle or non-Oracle systems -- and from the application layer through the operating system," said Richard Sarwal, senior vice president of Systems Management Products, Oracle. "This unique, business-focused approach provides our customers with a complete, integrated way to manage performance and availability, service levels, configurations, and deployment lifecycle for custom or pre-packaged applications and infrastructure. With these new capabilities, customers will be able to deliver better quality of service at lower cost."

"Oracle Enterprise Manager has played a key role in our overall data center automation strategy. The new release has delivered capabilities for managing Oracle Applications -- which we plan to take advantage of. Especially the improved performance monitoring features in combination with the service dashboards are unique capabilities that deserve a close look by companies looking to get the best performance for their business applications," said Dr. Werner Rath, Manager, Enterprise Delivery Center, MGI METRO Group Information Technology GmbH.

Latest Release Delivers Increased Oracle Fusion Middleware Management
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g features new, advanced Oracle Fusion Middleware management capabilities for the services that business applications rely upon including SOA, Business Activity Monitoring and Identity Management. Users can automatically discover and monitor processes orchestrated through Oracle BPEL Process Manager, and track evolution of process definitions of the BPEL processes and the associated services thereby reducing the effort for these time-consuming tasks and simplifying change tracking.

Oracle Enterprise Manager's integration with Oracle Business Activity Monitoring helps IT administrators to monitor key business performance indicators and proactively remediate business activity issues that stem from availability and performance of IT systems. Bi-directional data exchange between Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle Business Activity Monitoring enables business key performance indicators (KPIs) and alerts to be visible from within Oracle Enterprise Manager's management console and system information to be visible from the Oracle Business Activity Monitoring dashboard. This integration and increased data sharing between the two systems allows users to measure service level agreements against business metrics in real-time.

Oracle Enterprise Manager's new SOA capabilities are delivered through the new Oracle Management Pack for SOA, which provides a single, unified management solution for Oracle SOA Suite customers. The pack is generally available today.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 also features increased support for Oracle Access Manager and Oracle Identity Manager through the Oracle Management Pack for Identity Management. Introduced earlier this year, the Oracle Management Pack for Identity Management enables organizations to reduce the cost and complexity of managing identity and access management systems.

Simplifying Application and Infrastructure Lifecycle Management
The extensive lifecycle management capabilities in this release extend Oracle Enterprise Manager's leadership in grid computing by providing solutions for the entire application and infrastructure lifecycle including test, stage, and production through operations. For example, administrators can now clone test instances of the Oracle E-Business Suite for QA purposes and automatically deploy the tested application stack in the production environment. New high productivity tools also enable administrators to add capacity on demand for their SOA or pre-packaged applications. These new features help to lower the cost and ease automated deployment of high availability solutions for Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Real Application Clusters environments. Administrators can simply and reliably convert a single instance database into a clustered database. Additionally, administrators can add or remove capacity from a database or middle-tier cluster with a single click.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 provides integrated SOA application provisioning and bare metal provisioning. SOA application provisioning includes the deployment of the J2EE server, BPEL engine, and SOA applications, including end-to-end configuration of the Web servers, J2EE clusters, security and load-balancers. Bare metal provisioning includes integrated deployment of Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Clusterware, and Oracle Automatic Storage Management. These improvements reduce the chance of human errors and application down time.

The new release further simplifies patch management with synchronized patching, additional operating system support and conflict detection features. Administrators now have the ability to orchestrate patching across high availability environments including those using Oracle Automatic Storage Management, Oracle Database and Oracle Cluster Ready Services. Additionally, administrators can apply patches to Oracle Real Application Clusters and distributed middle-tier environments in a rolling fashion to eliminate the disruption of service and allow end-users to remain connected to production systems during the patch process.

The new release also offers richer operating system patching featuring new support for Oracle Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows and Sun Solaris platforms. Operating system patching in Release 3 also includes enhanced vendor site integration with Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems to ensure accurate and timely patching of appropriate systems. Furthermore, Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 offers upfront pre-requisite check and conflict detection. Oracle Unbreakable Linux support users have access to the new functionality in Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 3 via the Oracle Management Pack for Linux that enables comprehensive provisioning, patching, monitoring and administration of Linux servers.
