Centennial Software's Discovery 2005 Delivers 100% IT Asset Visibility and New Decision Support Tools

Portland, Ore. - June 7, 2005 - Centennial Software, a leading developer of IT asset discovery and security management solutions, today announced the release of Discovery 2005(TM), the latest release of the industry's leading point-solution for network inventory and IT asset management. Discovery 2005 offers businesses and the channel community the most powerful and comprehensive software tool available for dynamically finding, identifying and auditing all corporate hardware and software on a network.

Discovery 2005 stands out from the competition as a decision support tool that is indispensable for: addressing key IT business decisions, significantly cutting costs and time out of network management, and making it easier to manage decentralized, multi-platform networks.

"Complete network visibility is an incredibly powerful proposition for IT management," noted Andy Burton, CEO of Centennial Software. "But only if the data is current, accurate and easily digested can it improve business decision making. Centennial has solved those issues with Discovery 2005, delivering the industry's most comprehensive asset discovery solution along with powerful decision support tools for complete IT insight and business advantage."

New features in Discovery 2005 include: user-configurable dynamic dashboards for key audit data analysis, a unique online resource "portal" for instant access to vital software reference information, and several updates designed to improve the audit speed, information accuracy and application support essential to delivering 100% network visibility.

The new Discovery.Dashboard is designed to provide different organizational stakeholders with unique and dynamic user-configurable summary reports. Furthermore, it makes it easy to see specific IT asset configurations, usage and location details with the click of a mouse. For example, by using the Discovery.Dashboard web interface, executives can instantly determine how much of their software portfolio is at risk for a BSA or SIIA compliance audit - or what assets can be redeployed to avoid new purchase costs.

With software compliance and license management high on the CIO to-do list, Discovery 2005 also makes it easier for organizations to get a better understanding of their software assets. With the new Discovery.Portal, CIOs and IT managers can not only see how many licenses are actually being used before negotiating a renewal contract, they can also dynamically access additional software information found on their networks, such as who developed it, whether it is licensable, and what the software actually does.

Kevin Casey, President and CEO at OSSID, a professional services company specializing in delivering desktop management and IT asset management services, recently commented, "With the new developments such as the Dashboard and Portal, Centennial Discovery has evolved from a great auditing tool into a valuable IT business intelligence solution. Not only are the core discovery skills more comprehensive, it's now faster and easier for managers from all corners of the enterprise to access and make sense of network data."

Centennial's proprietary LANProbe(TM) technology has also been improved with the release of Discovery 2005. "With the vast majority of Centennial's competition, you have to already know where computers are before you can put the software on them," said Howard Hastings, Vice President of Solutions for the Bay Area compliance services firm DecisionRight. "The ability of Centennial Discovery to locate, identify and then be easily deployed to any device connected to the network is one of the best marriages of software we've seen."

In addition, Discovery 2005 also includes dynamic hardware audits, support for Active Directory and IBM AIX, faster multi-thread reporting, new multi-platform client agents, and compliance with the US Rehabilitation Act (Section 508).

"The ability to quickly and easily provide accurate, comprehensive and current information about all assets on the network is key for businesses implementing a discovery product," said Patricia Adams, Research Director with Gartner. "However, equally important is the ability of a solution to manipulate that information and distill it into useful data that can help an organization make better business decisions."

Centennial Discovery 2005 has been independently assessed by NGS Software Ltd (www.ngssoftware.com), a trusted supplier of security software and consulting services to corporate, governmental and financial organizations worldwide. According to Chris Paget of NGS Software, "Centennial takes security extremely seriously, so much so that they have subjected Discovery 2005 to a series of penetration tests by NGS Software. After each phase of testing, Centennial implemented our security recommendations and as a result of their determined efforts, have significantly increased the robustness of their product."
