FileWave Announces Version 2.5 of Its Cross Platform FileWave(TM) Software Suite

Query Based Groups and Automated First Time Deployment of Client Software Lead to Increased Productivity for FileWave Administrators

WIL, Switzerland, Jan. 12 / -- FileWave, a leading provider of Mac OS X and Windows systems management software, today announced the release of the latest version of its software management suite FileWave(TM) 2.5. The new features of FileWave(TM) 2.5 include, upgrading a computer from Mac OS 10.3.X Panther to Mac OS 10.4.X Tiger, automated first time network-based deployment of the FileWave Client software, management of software deployments based on hardware and software rules, remote control features through ssh, Timbuktu and VNC and support for transform files in the Patch Installer feature of the FileWave WinClient to better support MSI based installations.

In addition to these new features, FileWave has improved its cross platform compatibility with its client software running on Windows NT 4.0 through the latest release of Windows XP on Windows based PCs and Mac OS 10.2 to the latest release of Mac OS 10.4 Tiger on Apple Macintosh based computers. The multithreaded UNIX based server daemon FileWave XServer runs on the latest release of Mac OS 10.4 Tiger therefore giving FileWave(TM) the ability to deliver and manage software on Macs and PCs from a central Mac OS X based server.

"We are very excited about the 2.5 release of FileWave(TM). The ability to build Client Groups based on specific hardware and software queries with our Asset Trustee(TM) product gives FileWave Administrators incredible power and ease of use in managing their software deployments," says Ben Forsyth, Head of Technology at FileWave.

Thanks to FileWave(TM), its integration with Mac OS X and Windows and the level of control of the software deployed to the computers on the network it provides, IT administrators can face up to any challenge. "We have nearly a thousand FileWave Clients running with FileWave(TM) on six newspaper titles. Every Macintosh Client on our LAN/WAN is built, maintained and rebuilt using FileWave(TM). FileWave(TM) is a vital part of our desktop strategy. Basically, if FileWave(TM) didn't work we would not be using it," says Paul Cooper, Head of Systems Admin - Associated Newspapers UK.

Like similar Windows based solutions it allows a level of control of the deployment and the software environment down to the smallest details. Unlike Windows based solutions however, its interface is simple and friendly. Training merely takes 2 days. Unlike most solutions, FileWave(TM) gives the administrator the possibility to manage Mac and Windows software environment by delivering system updates, security patches, application updates and upgrades to both types of client machines. FileWave(TM) uses an advanced delivery mechanism that makes it perfectly suited for complex multi-site network architecture, even if they mix the latest high bandwidth connexion with early implementation of WiFi on laptops and VPN connections.
