Schneider Logistics Enhances Small Package Transportation Management Capabilities with SUMITTM Release

GREEN BAY, Wis. - April 29, 2003 - Schneider Logistics Inc. today announced a new release of its proprietary SUMITTM suite of supply chain execution software. Schneider Logistics' most recent release of SUMIT introduces critical expanded capabilities enabling Schneider Logistics' customers in handling small package movements. The new release also affords increased flexibility, greater ease of use and enhancements to the Schneider Track and Trace (STAT) application.

SUMIT enables shippers to conveniently manage all of their freight, including small package movements executed by carriers UPS, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, Airborne, DHL, and the United States Postal Service via a single enterprise application. Specifically, SUMIT's new small package operational system includes a pre-consolidation tool to support accurate mode selection and the ability to perform carrier and service optimization. In addition, SUMIT provides technical integration with existing shipping systems to support critical functions specific to small package shipping.

According to an AMR Research Inc. report, "Transportation managers now need to use logistics as a strategic weapon by employing business processes and technology for performance improvement and cost savings." Also according to the report, "In the end, the TMS application must be able to manage numerous shippers, items, constraints, and carrier modes to improve logistics operations." "This SUMIT release responds to the needs of customers who manage small package shipments as well as truckload and LTL movements and enables our customers to control virtually all of their transportation movements through one robust, user-friendly application," said Vava Speidel, Schneider Logistics' vice president of product management.

Schneider Logistics also introduced capabilities that make selecting and assigning carriers through SUMIT faster and more convenient.

With the new release, shippers are able to easily cycle through a prioritized list of carriers that qualify as pre-set candidates for a movement. Additionally, SUMIT now includes more user-friendly Schneider Track and Trace (STAT) application enhancements that make shipment searches easier, including the ability to perform quick searches without logging in to the system. STAT users also can now access the system in Spanish and English, further enhancing the global use of the SUMIT.

Schneider Logistics and its customers have managed billions of dollars through the SUMIT suite since its launch in 1995. Delivered through a hosted application model, SUMIT technology gives Schneider Logistics customers access to a network of more than 10,000 supply chain providers, including 1,300 carriers across all modes of transportation. The full SUMIT suite includes rating, optimization and planning, transportation management, and order release and supplier management providing detailed, item-level visibility to help customers level the flow of inventory through the supply chain.
