VERITAS Announces Availability of Data Lifecycle Manager 5.0; Launches Partner Program to Manage Broad Range of Data Types

VERITAS opens solutions center in New York City to help customers evaluate and leverage technologies for managing data to meet regulatory requirements

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - March 29, 2004 - VERITAS Software Corp. (Nasdaq: VRTSE) announced today the general availability of VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager 5.0 software, designed to help organizations meet global regulatory requirements for data management - from creation to deletion - across all storage media. In addition, VERITAS announced new partnerships aimed at offering integrated solutions to simplify and standardize management and archiving of structured and unstructured data - from e-mail to digital files to text - using the common Data Lifecycle Manager API. The company also announced the opening of its new VERITAS Solutions Center in New York City to provide customers joint solution overviews, leveraging VERITAS and expanded partnership technologies. The initial focus is aimed at solutions, which manage data and business processes to address regulatory requirements.

Previously, customers with archiving and retrieval requirements could only choose from point product solutions, each having its own storage infrastructure and requiring specialized IT talent and disparate technical support. Using VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager, customers can automate the management of files and messaging data using powerful policy-driven retention, migration and deletion processes. With its high-speed search and index capabilities for new and previously archived data, VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager provides customers an integrated solution with VERITAS' market-leading data protection solutions, VERITAS NetBackup(TM) and VERITAS Backup Exec(TM) software. This not only allows VERITAS customers to leverage their existing investments in data protection to address compliance without adding new hardware, but also to index historical backup information from VERITAS NetBackup software - enabling a user to easily search across potentially terabytes of data spanning multiple years in one search.

"Customers are faced with nonstop data growth, limited IT budgets and new government and industry regulations that require them to retain, track, locate and retrieve growing amounts of information, and document these processes," said Brenda Zawatski, vice president of product marketing, VERITAS Software. "In addition to the capabilities of VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager and its integration with VERITAS NetBackup, VERITAS Backup Exec, and VERITAS CommandCentral(TM) Service software, we've created an alliance program which offers customers ways to centrally manage a broad range of data formats, helping them achieve regulatory compliance while controlling IT costs."

VERITAS Partners to Extend Data Management Capabilities

The new VERITAS partner program is aimed at offering customers a set of joint solutions that unify the management of disparate data formats on a common data lifecycle management platform that will integrate heterogeneous storage devices with backup/restore software and archive connectors for database, application, enterprise content management, file system, e-mail and instant-messaging data.

VERITAS plans to provide partners an application programming interface (API) and developer's kit that enables the integration of their applications and hardware with VERITAS Data Lifecycle Manager. Participants in the VERITAS Enabled(TM) Data Lifecycle Manager partner program, include technology providers such as Akonix, Autonomy, Exivity, Facetime, IM Logic, Network Appliance, Pegasus, Plasmon, Princeton Softech, Sherpa Software and StorageTek.

VERITAS Solutions Center

Opening this week, the new VERITAS Solutions Center is located at 380 Madison Avenue, New York, N.Y., and is designed for customer briefings, presentations and hands-on demonstrations of solutions comprised of products from VERITAS and its partners. This center will initially focus on solutions which address regulatory and governance requirements through simplified, automated data lifecycle management across heterogeneous IT environments.
