OCEANPORT, N.J., Nov. 29 -- CommVault(R), the leading provider of Unified Data Management(TM) solutions, has solidified its industry-leading position in managing and protecting Microsoft data and applications with its QiNetix Second Generation, a major new product release. Built on the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform and used by Microsoft in numerous production and development labs, the QiNetix software suite of products is one of the most complete, flexible and robust Windows Server-based enterprise data management solutions available.
This major new release of QiNetix builds upon this heritage to provide faster backup and recovery, enhanced resiliency and enriched granular data protection that fully utilizes recent advances in Microsoft technology. Faster Backup/Recovery
-- Fast restores of an entire system -- 1-Touch Restore, a new option that leverages Microsoft Windows' Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) and allows the user to quickly and easily recover an entire server (data, operating system and system files) or workstation simply by inserting a CD which automatically links to information kept in the QiNetix database. The result is a much simpler and more reliable full-system restore that eliminates any MS-DOS requirements that traditional 'bare metal recovery' products use.
-- Increased reliability across enterprise platforms -- The Readiness Check feature performs a pre-operation check of all components, including when CommVault utilizes Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Storage Server components in the data path prior to job execution to assure completion of critical data movement applications.
-- Increased backup and recovery performance (average 30 percent increase) using CommVault media management technology on a Windows-based server -- Also includes advanced indexing techniques for DataArchiver and content-based backup and restore, especially for Microsoft Exchange Server.
Enriched Application Management for Microsoft Exchange, Windows SharePoint Services, SharePoint Portal Server Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and the Distributed File System for Windows Server 2003.
-- Full protection for SharePoint Portal Server and Windows SharePoint Services 2003 -- Document-level support includes powerful "point-in-time" browse and search capabilities, and enables fast, granular document recovery of individual documents. CommVault QiNetix also provides granular management of SQL and/or MSDE based data, used by SharePoint.
-- Enhanced protection for Active Directory -- Provides granular recovery of objects and attributes and now enables improved object level backups, while still enabling attribute level restores.
-- Increased integration with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) for replication and image-level backup software. CommVault's integration with VSS enables CommVault to become the generic provider for various hardware platforms, which allows VSS to be a key foundation for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) within CommVault's Galaxy, QiNetix Quick Recovery and now, Image Level Backup products.
