Software links thermal analysis and CAD capabilities.

Press Release Summary:

With bi-directional data-transfer capabilities, FLOTHERM v4.2 enables parts and assemblies from Pro/E, SolidWorks, and CATIA to be imported directly via their native file formats. CAD files are then simplified and transferred to FLOTHERM for thermal analysis. Software also directly imports board layouts via IDF. Intelligent Integration approach enables design engineers to create simplified thermal equivalent, which can be run through thermal analysis.

Flomerics Advances 'Intelligent Integration' Between Thermal Analysis and CAD Software

Southborough, MA - October 2003 - FLOTHERM 4.2 - the latest release of Flomerics' market-leading thermal analysis software - enables parts and assemblies from the current versions of Pro/E, SolidWorks and CATIA to be imported directly via their native file formats through FLO/MCAD 4.2. The CAD files are then simplified and transferred to FLOTHERM for thermal analysis. FLOTHERM 4.2 also directly imports board layouts via IDF.

"We call this approach "Intelligent Integration" because it recognizes that linking thermal analysis to mainstream MCAD or ECAD design software involves more than simply transferring geometry", says Sherman Ikemoto, Flomerics' Director of Marketing. "In FLO/MCAD, a design engineer can create a simplified "thermal equivalent" model (e.g., fans, heatsinks, enclosures, etc.). This "thermal equivalent" can be run quickly through thermal analysis, enabling the engineer to explore many different solutions in a minimum amount of time."

For years, FLO/MCAD has been acknowledged as having the best translator for Pro/E parts, CATIA4 and generic files formats such as IGES, STEP, and SAT. FLO/MCAD 4.2 has bi-directional, data- transfer capabilities. After the thermal design is optimized, the revised geometry (which maintains its product structure and hierarchy) can easily be exported back into the CAD software. Electronics-focused improvements in FLO/MCAD along with further enhancements in FLOTHERM, solidifies Version 4.2 as the leader in Design-Class Analysis software for electronics.
