Alfresco Launches Content Collaboration for JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform

Integration Extends Alfresco's Open Source Social Computing Platform for Team Collaboration

LONDON, Dec. 5 / -- Alfresco Software, Inc., the leader in open source enterprise content management (ECM), today announced the availability of an integrated Red Hat-Alfresco Team Collaboration Solution for small and medium businesses (SMBs) requiring collaboration, simplified information sharing and content management. The joint solution, which is available exclusively from Red Hat Exchange (RHX), delivers Alfresco Enterprise Social Computing Platform capabilities via Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform, and brings a comprehensive open source collaboration alternative to a marketplace dominated by high-priced proprietary software.

Team Collaboration Solution offers an affordable solution for organizations that want to get up and running quickly with portals that deliver rich content services and mashups to their constituents. Pre-integrated and certified on a complete Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/JBoss Enterprise Middleware stack, this offering combines Red Hat's standards-compliant JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform with Alfresco's Enterprise Social Computing Platform in a single package, delivered via an annual Red Hat subscription.

"Alfresco's integration with Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform provides SMB users access to Alfresco's powerful ECM capabilities, such as portal-based mashup of content from both internal and external sources," said John Newton, CTO and co-founder, Alfresco Software. "With Red Hat's proven enterprise-class support and technology platform, business users can now benefit from the flexibility of an open source stack to create new ways of working together."

Companies can use the Red Hat-Alfresco solution to build information-rich portals for employees, or extranets for customers and partners. They can further extend their portals with out-of-the-box JSR-168 compliant portlets for provisioning content collaboration, document management and Web content management services directly within the portal environment. A rich, lightweight, JavaScript-based extension framework (Web Scripts) allows users to readily download any of Alfresco's managed content or content services directly into a portal page.

"The ability to connect people, processes and information together has powerful implications for improved collaboration, business efficiency and better business intelligence," said Pierre Fricke, director of product line management for JBoss Portal and SOA products at Red Hat. "The time has come for an open source solution that tackles this major pain point for small and medium-sized companies. We've joined with Alfresco to deliver Team Collaboration Solution to help organizations collaborate effectively without the steep price point."

Team Collaboration Solution supports sharing of content via Web 2.0-inspired social computing, and extends Red Hat's JBoss Portal and Alfresco's ECM standalone offerings with the following new capabilities:

o Pre-built ECM Portlets
o My Spaces portlet for enterprise document management and
collaboration within the context of any portal deployment
o My Documents portlet for provisioning any library of documents or
digital assets within any portal page
o My Web Forms portlet for enabling easy publishing of reusable
content
o My Web Files portlet for managing in-progress changes to any Web
site

o Pre-built Team Collaboration Portlets - Out-of-the-box integration with
team blog, wiki and forum components
