Software Interface permits hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

Press Release Summary:

RenderPipe for CATIA makes hardware-accelerated ray tracing available to CATIA v5 and ENOVIA v5 users. It integrates CATIA and ENOVIA with proprietary RenderDrive visualization system, simulating complex, real-world physics to create image from 3D CAD model. Software provides visual realism, comparable to high-quality photographs, that proves to be critical in virtual product simulations.

ART VPS Releases Fast Ray Tracing for CATIA and ENOVIA V5 Software

CAMBRIDGE, UK, 28 June 2004 - ART VPS Ltd. has released a new software interface that makes hardware-accelerated ray tracing available to CATIA V5 and ENOVIA V5 users.

The new interface, called RenderPipe for CATIA, integrates CATIA and ENOVIA with ART VPS's RenderDrive visualization system. RenderDrive simulates the complex physics of the real world to create an image from a 3D CAD model.

ART VPS renderings are identical to a high-quality photograph, but with the added value of realistic 3D effects not possible with photos or traditional scan-line renderers. Ray tracing within ART VPS's specialized 3D graphics hardware enables images to be generated up to 35 times faster than with conventional software rendering.

Better quality, less time

"RenderPipe for CATIA will deliver major benefits for CATIA and ENOVIA users who require the highest-quality visualizations and digital mock-ups in the least time possible," says Brian Tyler, president of ART VPS.

One of these users is BOC Edwards, a leading materials, equipment and services provider for microelectronics manufacturers worldwide. BOC Edwards did extensive beta testing of RenderPipe for CATIA running on a RenderDrive before deciding to purchase the integrated software and hardware from ART VPS.

"We created a number of test images and animations that received very enthusiastic and excited responses within BOC Edwards," says Tim Draper, global CAD manager for the company. "The aesthetics of the images and animations will be a major asset in our marketing to new and existing customers."

The new interface was developed using Dassault Systems' Component Application Architecture V5 (CAA V5). It is the result of an agreement between ART VPS and Spatial, a Dassault Systems company.

"Visual realism is very critical in virtual product simulations," says Jean-Luc Cuinier, Dassault Systems's R&D manager for advanced rendering applications. "ART VPS visualization systems increase productivity in this area, reducing design-to-market cycle time and providing tremendous value to our customers."
