PTC Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Uses Groove Networks Technology To Create Industry-Leading "Contextual Collaboration" Offering

Solution Reduces Coordination Costs for Product Design Teams

NEEDHAM, MA. - February 3, 2003 - PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the product development company(TM), announced today that its soon-to-be-delivered Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire incorporates secure collaboration services from Groove Networks, providing design engineers a unique option for reducing the cost and time associated with refining product designs, particularly for teams that span company and geographic boundaries. By making available Groove Networks' unique collaboration services within Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, PTC is offering design engineers the most ambitious and comprehensive "contextual collaboration" capabilities on the market today.

"Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire gives our users a new and highly effective option for collaborating together in real-time, or asynchronously, right from within our application, further enabling them to focus on the design process rather than the technology. For Pro/ENGINEER users, the days of having no choice but to trade files and designs through email attachments or expensive overnight delivery services are over, " said James Heppelmann, PTC Chief Technical Officer and Executive Vice President of Software Solutions. "By incorporating Groove collaboration services within Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, we're delivering what industry observers believe is a more distant promise - contextual collaboration services that are embedded right within the application. Our users don't have to leave Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire to collaborate with colleagues around the world; we believe this is key to helping our customers reduce cycle times and increase product quality."

"In the past, two key impediments to effective ad hoc collaboration across company and geographic boundaries have been firewalls and concerns about the security of information passing across the open internet," said Groove Networks CEO Ray Ozzie. "By leveraging Groove's robust, agile, and ultra-secure collaboration services, PTC and its customers benefit substantially and are better able to focus on their primary business needs - reducing the time and cost of bringing products to market. Jim and his team recognized this trend toward contextual collaboration more than two years ago, and now PTC is the first in its market to deliver on the promise. We're excited to be a component of this collaborative product design solution, which is as innovative as the products that PTC's customers produce."

The production version of PTC's Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, a breakthrough version of its award-winning Pro/ENGINEER® product design and development software, is scheduled to ship this quarter.
