Emerson Launches AMS Software Additions to Extend Predictive Maintenance Capabilities

Includes new advanced diagnostics, extended field device coverage, and new functions for regulated industries.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (September 27, 2002) - Emerson Process Management continues to grow the broad predictive abilities of PlantWeb® digital plant architecture by announcing new and extended functions for its AMS predictive maintenance software. AMS has extended its field device coverage and added reporting of new field device diagnostics, all to give users greater power than ever before to diagnose control valve and field instrument problems before they lead to costly problems in process plants. As a result, processors realize the full potential of their field devices to optimize plant assets, providing significant operational improvements and direct maintenance savings.

The new release includes:

- Four new AMS advanced diagnostic SNAP-ON(TM) applications
- Additional diagnostic power in the AMS ValveLink® SNAP-ON application
- Expanded documentation enhancements to help meet the requirements of FDA 21CFR Part 11 relating to validated industries
- Extended data integration capabilities to deliver online instrument health and diagnostics directly to plant business systems
- Additional HART and FOUNDATION(TM) fieldbus instruments with which AMS communicates
- Three new calibrator interfaces and two more HART multiplexer interfaces

AMS is a key modular software technology that communicates with intelligent field devices through FOUNDATION fieldbus or HART protocols across Emerson's open, networked PlantWeb® digital plant architecture. AMS captures rich diagnostic information about not only the health of Emerson field devices, but of the process as well. It also interfaces and captures health data from the field devices of a majority of the world's leading automation suppliers. This functionality powers PlantWeb to deliver predictive diagnostics information to those responsible for maximizing asset availability and performance.

Supporting the PlantWeb technology platform and its AMS software, Emerson's Asset Optimization delivers world-class services to help users make significant and continuous improvements in production asset performance. Asset Optimization improves plant availability, increases productivity, and reduces equipment cost-of-ownership across the full spectrum of plant assets including mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, process equipment, instruments and valves.
