BEAWORLD, BEIJING, Dec. 13 /- BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that BEA Guardian evaluation version will be available in January 2007, followed by a February general availability release. As the industry's first and only preemptive software support offering, Guardian represents a departure from the traditional support model employed by the enterprise software industry and is designed to reduce the cost of reactive and proactive support services for organizations.

Additionally, BEA announced the first Guardian Challenge Sweepstakes. Starting January 17, 2007, the worldwide contest solicits customers to share their most complex application problems as candidates for future BEA Signature Patterns(TM). From potential application misconfigurations, to threatening security vulnerabilities, these new signature scenarios will be entered in a drawing to win a Ducati motorcycle. Furthermore, contestants submitting the first 500 signature scenarios will receive a $50 American Express gift certificate. Winners will be awarded shortly after the contest closes on April 17, 2007.

"Guardian is designed to take support services from a traditional break-fix model to a vastly superior preemptive model, changing how support can be delivered by our industry in the future," said Terry Clearkin, senior vice president, Worldwide Support at BEA. "Guardian is designed to help all customers running business critical applications, as high availability is no longer a strategic goal but a tactical necessity in our market place."

As a value-added support offering for the BEA WebLogic, AquaLogic and SIP servers, and BEA RFID product family, Guardian is designed to automate the process of diagnosing domains for potential problems and can recommend solutions, including updates or maintenance packs. By finding problems before they occur, customers can reduce unplanned downtime and improve IT support staff productivity.

Guardian is also designed to enhance productivity by identifying troublesome bottlenecks in the network, detecting security risks addressed by updates or maintenance packs, supplying key information needed to expedite the troubleshooting of cases and providing direct links to detailed information in BEA's knowledge base. In addition, Guardian is designed to help IT operations professionals roll-out complex deployments smoothly and on time, as well as to protect investments in BEA WebLogic Server, one of the industry's leading application server platforms.

BEA Guardian uses a repository of Signature Patterns assembled from a comprehensive body of engineering and industry-wide support knowledge. Signature Patterns can describe a set of parameters, thresholds, settings, coding practices and/or symptoms and their interdependencies. Signature Patterns also include a series of steps for problem resolution and are designed to be continually updated so that Guardian can preemptively identify new potential conflicts or trouble areas.

Guardian is a key services offering component of the BEA SOA 360 platform. Announced at BEAWorld in September 2006, the BEA SOA 360 platform is designed to deliver the industry's most unified SOA platform and spans all three of BEA's product families, AquaLogic, WebLogic®, Tuxedo and the company's newest product initiative, BEA Workspace 360.
