Weigh and Dispense Optimization(TM) improves product consistency and quality while helping companies meet FDA reporting and tracking requirements
INTERPHEX, March 31, 2003 - Pharmaceutical companies can increase the speed and accuracy of their operations with a new Weigh and Dispense Optimization(TM) solution introduced today as part of the Rockwell Automation new life science initiative. Using open architecture platforms and configurable software modules, the Weigh and Dispense Optimization solution integrates isolated weigh and dispense operations with the rest of the manufacturing enterprise. In addition, by converting these operations from paper-based to electronic-based systems, the solution helps manufacturers increase production efficiency, improve product consistency and quality, and reduce waste.
The Weigh and Dispense Optimization solution combines Propack Data enterprise production management solutions and Rockwell Software batch software with Rockwell Automation global expertise and extensive engineering and support in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations to help companies improve product consistency and quality and meet U.S. FDA regulations.

Isolated manual weigh and dispense systems increase the potential for error and delay in getting critical production data distributed as needed. The Rockwell Automation Weigh and Dispense Optimization solution electronically logs and manages required production data for greater accuracy and efficiency. It also performs material identification, automatic label printing, report generation and data collaboration with other manufacturing execution systems (MES) to help increase production throughput and reduce quarantine times. In addition, results from operations such as material consumption can be exchanged with enterprise resources planning (ERP) systems to assist in planning and budgeting.
The new solution leverages standard interfaces and software for data sharing, maintenance and validation efforts. At startup, the system initializes all interfaces and activates and checks all connected scales. All materials are identified prior to weighing and direct data collection allows accurate calculation of consumed quantities and yields. User authorizations, password protection and electronic signatures help ensure compliance with U.S. FDA regulation 21 CFR Part 11.
