VERITAS Raises the Bar for J2EE Application Performance Management

VERITAS introduces first industry solution for reducing J2EE performance isolation time, from weeks to minutes, without adding any system "overhead"

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - March 2, 2004 - VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, today announced that Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition-based applications can now be migrated from development into production faster with the new adaptive instrumentation capabilities of VERITAS Indepth(TM) for J2EE software.

VERITAS Indepth for J2EE - Adaptive Instrumentation software is expected to dramatically reduce the time it takes to isolate J2EE application performance problems, from weeks to just minutes, since it is the first software to automatically provide an in-depth way to isolate J2EE performance bottlenecks automatically without adding system "overhead" that itself becomes another performance issue.

VERITAS Indepth for J2EE - Adaptive Instrumentation software saves time and resources by automating the complicated and time-consuming task of having experienced application engineers manually configure the key components of the application monitoring tool. In addition, adaptive instrumentation helps production groups rapidly isolate application problems for development teams, allowing developers to focus on correcting miscoding rather than searching for problems. The new VERITAS software also includes an easy-to-use, Web-based dashboard that enables users to monitor the status of J2EE application servers and applications without complicated configuration procedures.

Performance monitoring for component-based J2EE multi-tiered enterprise applications historically has involved manually customizing instrumentation to optimize performance and minimize application overhead. VERITAS Indepth for J2EE - Adaptive Instrumentation software can eliminate this manual process and enables application managers to set policies that automatically configure J2EE application monitoring to identify the root cause of any performance problem.

"VERITAS Software's validation on BEA WebLogic Platform can help customers manage application performance issues, gain rapid insight into where problems originate and learn their root cause and recommendations for corrective action," said Scott Edgington, vice president and general manager, global software partners, BEA Systems. "The combination of the VERITAS Indepth for J2EE application performance management solution and BEA WebLogic Platform can help our customers develop and manage enterprise-class, Web-based applications to help increase the business efficiencies of mission-critical applications."

"We've both simplified and automated the complex process of J2EE application performance management," said Bob Maness, senior director of product marketing, VERITAS Software. "Since most Web-based enterprise applications today contain a J2EE tier, our new adaptive instrumentation software carries tangible productivity benefits to companies trying to gain visibility into J2EE applications to improve their business operations."

VERITAS Indepth for J2EE is an integral component of VERITAS' overall application performance management solution set. VERITAS i3 software is used to help enterprises ensure that their entire application infrastructure meets or exceeds business objectives in providing optimal service to users, customers and partners. The need to optimally manage increasingly complex applications is fast becoming a key element in maintaining a competitive business advantage. Optimizing interactions, managing real-time business processes, anticipating opportunities, increasing revenue and reducing costs are imperative in today's "always on" environments.

J2EE eBook Expert Series

In an effort to both promote and better understand the importance of J2EE application performance management, VERITAS is introducing a year-long J2EE Expert Series educational program that provides expert content through monthly e-book chapters and webcasts on J2EE development and deployment concerns. The J2EE Expert Series features chapters dealing with "Architecting and Analyzing J2EE Performance," "Core J2EE Application Components" and "Testing and Capacity Planning." The e-book was developed by VERITAS and Pearson Technology Group, a worldwide publisher of educational books and training materials focused on advancing the skills of technical, business and professional consumers.
