Oakley Networks Launches Solution for Locating and Deleting Data on Lost or Stolen Laptops

SureFind Goes Beyond Current Industry Solutions With Ability to Verify if Sensitive Data is Compromised and Destroy This Data Remotely

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 20 / -- Oakley Networks, Inc., the leader in insider threat mitigation, today announced the launch of SureFind(TM), the first solution to allow enterprises to locate a missing laptop, discover whether or not the data on the laptop has been compromised or even viewed, and destroy the data remotely to ensure that organizations' assets are not at risk.

Invisible to end users, SureFind software can be installed on laptops to silently and securely contact the enterprise when a lost or stolen laptop is found, reporting its location using an Internet connection. The enterprise can then determine if the data located on the lost or stolen laptop has been exposed or compromised in any way. This provides organizations with unique insights to determine the appropriate next steps or regulatory disclosures.

"Lost and stolen laptops are a major pain point for organizations and -- despite the number of incidents already reported -- represents a trend that is only expected to grow," said Scott Crawford, Senior Analyst with Enterprise Management Associates. "The ability to take positive steps to destroy data subject to compromise in such cases, before it can be exploited, can be a significant advantage to organizations, enabling them to credibly avoid reputation-damaging disclosures to the public."

SureFind establishes contact with the enterprise once the lost laptop is turned on, even if a new operating system has been reinstalled. The SureFind solution continues to remotely monitor user activity and produces a discovery log that enables security personnel to review all of the laptop's activities since it was reported missing, allowing the investigator to determine if any data has been accessed or modified since it was lost or stolen. Based on this information, the enterprise can invoke a data deletion process to wipe the hard disk, and even disable the laptop completely if desired. Companies can use this report to verify that they have complied with current data protection regulations such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and state privacy laws such as CA SB1386.

"Lost and stolen laptops have resulted in some of the highest profile information leakages this year, creating huge litigation and regulatory issues and causing irreparable damage to reputations," said Derek Smith, CEO of Oakley Networks. "SureFind is the first solution that provides intelligence on whether or not the data has been compromised and delivers the capability to remotely destroy all data on the laptop. Oakley Networks' goal is to provide our customers with the solutions that help them avoid becoming the next national data loss headline."

SureFind is the latest addition to the Oakley Networks "Total Behavioral Visibility" insider threat mitigation suite. The company's SureView(TM) endpoint monitoring and enforcement solution and CoreView(TM) network content and behavioral analysis appliance are already in use at numerous Fortune 1000 companies and government agencies, mitigating insider threats ranging from simple productivity loss and inappropriate behavior, to erroneous or accidental disclosures due to poor internal policies and procedures, to malicious and targeted events that require detailed investigation and forensics. All products in the suite are uniquely designed to not just prevent data leakage but also provide the maximum context and visibility into events for targeted remediation and policy optimization.
