Aperture Technologies Releases VISTA 500; Breakthrough Product for Managing Today's New Breed of Data Centers

New Release Transforms Mission Critical Data Center Operations Management

STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 13 /-- Aperture Technologies, Inc. today announced the launch of VISTA 500, a comprehensive data center infrastructure resource management system that revolutionizes the way companies manage today's increasingly complex data center environments.

VISTA 500 represents the culmination of Aperture's 20 years of experience and expertise in the data center industry and is the result of more than 100 man years of software development. Collaborating with leading IT users, Aperture has created a landmark solution that gives IT executives and managers an unprecedented level of control over physical assets such as space, power and cooling as well as the configuration management complexities that threaten the viability of today's data centers.

"Aperture has a broad market presence, and we're hearing the same things loud and clear: Data centers are stressed to the limit and they're tougher than ever to manage," said Bill Clifford, CEO and Chairman of Aperture Technologies. "VISTA 500 is the first product that truly gives data center managers the tools to visualize their environment, manage processes, measure capacities and plan for change. The data center business has changed radically, and our customers are demanding a new, more visionary, enterprise-wide solution to help them manage these issues. We have met that challenge with VISTA 500."

In a recent report, leading analyst firm Gartner, Inc. projected that "during the next three years, most CIOs will experience constraints in data center floor space and power that could limit their IT organizations' ability to grow as their business grows."(1) A simple model of the data center is no longer enough to effectively manage today's dynamic data center and support inevitable future growth. However, VISTA 500 has newly added functionality to model the enterprise data center and manage its complex physical infrastructure. With this major new release, VISTA 500 models today's data center environment with features and functionality not offered elsewhere, helping companies to optimize their data center operations.

"There are inherent complexities in the data center due to factors such as emerging technologies, high density equipment, power and cooling. Ultimately, this has an impact on running the business," said Rakesh Kumar, Research VP at Gartner, Inc. "If companies fail to put a solution in place, data center facilities will not meet operational and capacity requirements."

According to a survey conducted of more than 100 companies, nearly 40 percent of respondents have run out of data center space, power or cooling capacity without having sufficient notice beforehand. This can have a significant negative impact on the overall business and the bottom line. As a result, companies cannot rely on basic documentation tools anymore; they need an enterprise solution with detailed best practice processes that model the mission critical data center. VISTA 500 meets these needs, providing the visual management of equipment, space, power, cooling and overall data center capacity. Additionally, it gives the user a complete view of power consumption, allowing for the management of three-phase power, power connectivity and the full power distribution network. The new release also offers users the ability to handle emerging technologies by managing the provisioning of blade servers. Tracking blade servers can have enormous implications on the entire facility and no other product provides this functionality.

Aperture worked closely with industry-leading companies in many industries, including financial services, healthcare, energy services and telecommunications, to develop a mature software product that provides businesses with the features and functionality necessary to run a world-class operation. As a result, VISTA 500 includes:

o Advanced Power Management and Device Support: Tracks the impact of outages, rack power availability and validates redundancy. Provides comprehensive three-phase power connectivity data model.
o Enhanced Support for Blade Servers: Integrates blade server provisioning with change management processes and provides management and control of the provisioning of blade chassis.
o Enhanced Connectivity: Loads and maintains physical network and storage connections at multiple levels of granularity.
o Improved Operational Management Reporting: Included reporting and analysis capabilities, standardized on Crystal Reports, allow instant access to actionable information. Also included are advanced ad-hoc and process reporting.
o Service-Level Escalations for Infrastructure Processes: Provides automated alerts when user-defined operating-level agreements (OLAs) or service-level agreements (SLAs) are not being met, and detailed process analysis for understanding the causes.
o Equipment Request Catalog: Organizations can standardize equipment provisioning requests, simplifying management and improving efficiency.
o Full Web-Enablement of Equipment Install, Move, Decommission (IMD) Processes: Intuitive Web-based tools for device positioning providing a seamless, immediate work process with no manual drawing updates.

"Aperture VISTA saves us 480 man hours per month in installation and migration tasks and 20 hours per month in auditing in one data center alone," said Mark Scott, head of customer data centers at Fujitsu Services. "Our customers demand the best in data center management and planning. VISTA enables us to meet their needs while having complete insight into, and control over, our environments."
