Overview

Remote Deployment Manager (RDM), V4.11 is a deployment tool based on the award-winning IBM Director systems management product.

RDM is used primarily for the deployment of software and firmware images, including the operating system, in a preboot environment.

RDM V4.11

RDM is the latest release of the IBM xSeries® server network deployment tool based on the industry standards such as Wake on LAN® (WOL) and the Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE).

RDM 4.11 integrates with IBM Director, and supports deploying both Microsoft(TM) Windows® and Linux operating systems.

System administrators can use a single interface for deploying systems, and customers can extend IBM Director's autonomic computing capabilities with deployment and configuration actions. Examples of preboot tasks RDM can launch on target systems, includes deploying operating systems, updating system firmware (for example, BIOS, ISMP), and backing up and restoring the system's boot partition.

RDM 4.11 also supports scripting of multiple tasks for complete deployment of a system and custom tasks for unique deployment requirements.

RDM 4.11 has all of the features of V4.1 and adds support for:

o IBM desktop

o Mobile computer

o Point-of-sale systems

o Non-IBM clients and servers

o Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 on BladeCenter(TM) systems

For information on IBM Director V4.1 operating system support, refer to Software Announcement 202-246 , dated September 24, 2002.
